1. Cool! I was there!

107th and Broadway. It was very solemn and beautiful and quiet. And then there was a glorious moment when an FDNY truck drove by and several firemen waved and the driver honked his horn in obvious support. Gave me chills. Cindy is reaching a lot of people.

God bless the FDNY and Cindy tonight.

...Wow. I'm very glad to see that there were a lot of little kids there. We gotta teach 'em now

Rovian, welcome to DU.

I wrote some impressions of my own vigil here in central Massachusetts. No pictures but maybe the laser-like descriptive powers will better than pictures.

5. That was very
descriptive and enlightening, jurassic.

It reminded me that a woman said to me at our Candle Light Vigil at Clinton On The Green in Clinton, New York.. that she had met me where I work a our Co-op right after the election and I had told her that I was a political activist and she thought that was so cool. So when a friend from Florida asked her what she had been up to..she said.."Well, I'm a political activist now." :)

6. Thanks, hun.
As a writer, it's always vital to get feedback, even though I just dashed off that blog entry (usually I draft in lonhand, then type on Word, then go to my editing page).

Please visit more often. Usually I'm a lot more vitriolic and funny. But obviously, I was playing for laughs tonight.

Whereabouts in NY are you from? I'm from Queens.

7. You're welcome!
Little Falls..about 4 1/2 hours from Queens.

Not really from there but living there for the last 7 years....but I will be moving back to Hawaii in a couple of years where I really belong.

Have gotten to know some super great people here in the Northeast, though :D

13. A vigil of one
I also live too far in the country to have attended the nearest public vigil so I had a private ceremony in solidarity. I lit a seven day candle and left it on my front porch. It's still burning with a strong and clear flame. I wonder how many other people did that?

And let me add my thanks for the moving photos.

15. Brooklyn Represents
Thanks for posting the photos Carol. I attended the vigil in Brooklyn Heights on the Promenade last night and it was very moving. I posted the following comment to http://www.dailykos.com/story/2005/8/17/214516/840">the thread over at Kos earlier today:

As I stood on the Brooklyn Promenade last night, candle in hand, properly attired in my http://daysbreak.blogspot.com/2005/08/while-you-were-still-out-i-know-i-know.html">'We Hate Your War' t-shirt, I stared across the harbor at that empty spot in the lower Manhattan skyline and thought (yet again) about how callously Bush & Co. used the deaths of my friends and fellow New Yorkers to pursue their false and unjust war. I thought about the spirit that existed that day in the wake of such a horrible tragedy, the good will which emanated from even the most unlikely corners of the world. And then I thought about how Bush and his band of criminals have so quickly squandered all that good will. As the tears begin to well up in my eyes, I shifted my gaze to the left, out into the harbor and saw the gleaming torch of Ms. Liberty held high and proud against the setting sun and I thought, "We will prevail because we have true liberty, and that magnificent lady, on our side."

Keep Speaking Out everyone.
We ARE at a turning point.
And we will prevail.
