War Protests Continue Near Bush's Ranch

CRAWFORD, Texas - Dozens of war protesters camping near President Bush's ranch held a prayer service and other activities as planned Friday, a day after their leader had to go home to California to be with her mother in the hospital.

Cindy Sheehan, who started the camp Aug. 6 to protest her son's death in Iraq, flew to Los Angeles after learning that her 74-year-old mother had a stroke. She hopes to return to Texas soon.

The other grieving families and peace activists vowed to keep camping out for the chance to question the president about the war. "Cindy put a face on this movement, but the rest of us are all in that movement as well," said Pat Vogel of Barrington, Ill. "Many people have turned this whole camp into a well-oiled machine."

Bush, who has said he sympathizes with Sheehan, is to return to Washington on Sept. 3. A White House spokeswoman said he did not plan to change his schedule and meet with her.

Note from Bush_Eats_Beef: "he did not plan to change his schedule and meet with her," but he WILL go on that bike ride with Lance Armstrong this weekend. He's got to "get on with his life" so he can keep making "crisp" decisions, don't ya know...

1. Did they actually think Bush would show up?

3. I don't think they expected him to show up...
...I think they simply want to provide him with opportunity after opportunity after opportunity to do the right thing, and let the American people sit back and watch him blow those opportunities off one by one.

We know George only shows up for communion wine anyway.

4. I'm confused about the Lance Armstrong thing...
Last I heard, Lance had invited Kerry to be his guest in France as he won the Tour. Is this a photo op for junior that Lance feels obligated to attend?

5. Here's the story from MSNBC:
Armstrong's new foe: President Bush
7-time Tour champion to ride with fellow Texan, old friend at ranch

Updated: 11:07 p.m. ET Aug. 19, 2005

CRAWFORD, Texas - It’s not clear whether Lance Armstrong will have to abide by the standard rules for biking with President Bush when the two famously competitive Texans take their first ride together Saturday.

“There’s no talking” on rides with Bush, Armstrong said he’s heard from friends who’ve ridden with Bush.

If Bush and Armstrong do find time to chat, they have a lot in common to discuss since each has become increasingly more interested in the other’s career. While Bush has taken up biking, Armstrong says he would like to get more involved in politics.

He recently said he might even consider running for Bush’s old job as Texas governor. But, he coyly told ABC, “It’s more or less a joke.”

6. Maybe Lance is Skull & Bones?
It would seem to be the most logical reason that he would be friends with both Kerry and the Monkey Boy.

7. I think he fell off his bike and bumped his head too many times.
