we haven't figues out the solution yet.

13. stealing is not the same as winning., it's just succeeding in stealing
and that can't last forever. The American people will catch on eventually, if * isn't overthrown by some real patriots on the inside of the Pentagon and/or CIA.

The Repugs own the media, the Dems will never seem to have a plan as long as the playing field is so warped.

We had a plan and implemented it with much success for 8 years.

This group of Repugs are just like an abusive spouse, they will NEVER be satisfied, they will never stop their abuse and it will be their undoing.

Yes, the Dems have been afraid to call a spade a spade, but the American people fell for 9/11 hook, line and sinker. The tide is turning and when it does I think you'll see the Dems feel more confident about speaking the truth.....unless we have another 9/11.....will the nation fall for a second one???? I hope not, because if we do it will be draft time and onto Iran.

And by the way.....GORE WON and I totally believe Kerry won. If the Repugs were really winning...they wouldn't need Wally O'Dell, now would they?

Edited on Sat Aug-20-05 01:00 AM by welshTerrier2
the republican party sucks ... they are on the ropes IF Democrats make the necessary changes in their strategy and their platform and start offering Americans some bold ideas and bold solutions ...

we have to demonstrate real leadership ... we have to show Americans that we have a deep commitment to our beliefs ... we have to demonstrate that we will fight like hell for what we believe is best for the country ... and we have to understand that gaining power takes a "movement", not an election campaign ...

until Democrats address all the problems stated in the BP, the sucky republicans will retain control of the country ...

2. Well, I think you got it backwards.
There is really only one glaring issue with everything today...

http://www.answers.com/topic/2004-u-s-presidential-election-controversy-voting-machines

Yes, that range of evidence. There may be nothing wrong with democrats at all, but even if there is, until this concern is completely tackled the ultimatums will go nowhere.

Electoral disfunction is a plague that effects all the parties, and the system itself.

ODDS to win elections.....That EFFORT must be convincing they are the Best effort....the "efforts" should address the above concerns in a cohesive way.

14. Don't think the Demos have always embodied bad ideas...
... but they inherited a bunch in the last fifty years. The Henry Jackson office gave us people like Wolfowitz and Perle, and budget-busting defense spending. The Democratic House in the early `80s gave Reagan his tax-cutting plan which effectively killed the principle of progressive taxation. Clinton brought us the moderate Republican kind of Democrat as a new model, which the DLC has tried to run as the new wave--which simply pushes Democrats and the whole political scene further right and more pro-big business.

As time goes by, the machine-politics Democrats have done themselves in, because they allowed themselves to be corrupted by the promise of big money. I think that was the reason behind the Democrats' support for the huge tax cuts in the `80s.

The machine-politics guys are now trying to force their candidates on Democrats and the voting public by minimizing or eliminating Democratic primaries. That strikes me as a desperation move, rather than a smart response to a call for more democracy in the process--and a cynical one when considering that the primaries in most states are already closed to independents.

This is not to suggest that the British are smarter, or that Churchill was a progressive icon. But, he said, decades ago, that "Americans always do the right thing, after first trying everything else."

Eventually, the country will be in very dire straits, and it is at that point that the Democrats will rise to the challenge, or will sink, as have the Whigs, the Tories and the Know-Nothings. If there's eventually no difference between the Republicans and the Democrats (and I'm talking here about legislation, rather than what they say on the Sunday talk shows), then some other party will take their place--but not until times get very hard.

But, as long as the Democrats continue to take corporate money and give corporations access and vote in favor of corporate interests, they won't attract any of those 80 million or so disenfranchised voters who've lost interest, and their tactics and policies will be desperate attempts to sway the very few million voters in the middle who can't make up their minds on the issues until they walk into the voting booth, and then base their vote on the best-sounding empty slogan they've most recently heard.

19. What I should have added...
... is that this is likely not to come about until events make life in this country very difficult. That may take decades--you and I probably won't see that transformation. That's what I meant by the Churchill quote.

Right now, the Democrats and the Republicans alike are playing power games that have little to nothing to do with promoting the welfare of the people, and yet, the political split in the country is just about dead even.

The best we can do for now is to push Democrats to do the right thing all the time, in the hope that they respond some of the time. But, history isn't wrong--it simply is. And what is happening now has happened before. This adoration of the wealthy and big corporations on the part of government happened before. It took almost fifty years and a world-wide depression to convince people that such adoration of politicians promoting corporate interests wasn't in their own best interest, that it was, in fact, antithetical to their interests.

Here's the major point: they had to suffer in order to make them think. Most of us would like for society to avoid that, but human nature and history suggests that this country will go on electing the people who are harming them until reality smacks `em in the forehead. And, even then, they'll only grudgingly come to the notion that they might have been wrong all along.

The problem today is that we expect political problems to be solved in the same way that other demands for instant gratification are met. It won't happen that way. It will take more years of excess and waste and ignoring the obvious to bring about the fundamental changes the country needs now. That's not a reason to stop trying, but those efforts have to be tempered by the knowledge that change is going to come when people are forced by circumstances to rethink their closely-held beliefs about the status quo.

It's not pleasant to contemplate. But, it's the history of this country.

Cheers.

20. You're not reading...
... what I'm saying. I'm talking about energizing disenfranchised voters--not what the actual constituency of Congress may be now--I'm well aware of that tendency on the part of Congress, as I have mentioned.

Cheers.

22. Now, just back up and think for a moment...
... is Howard Dean president? No. Are the Democrats controlling the House and Senate? No. Are the Democrats working hard for the interests of average people? No.

Maybe there are reasons for that you haven't considered. Howard Dean is talking. What counts is the legislation that's passed, the judges that are installed.

It's going to take much more than Dean turning "red" and going "nuclear," much as you may think otherwise.

And, if you had read more carefully, you would understand that I'm not talking about reinvention--I'm actually talking about bringing the populace back to their own core interests. I don't care what party does that, as long as someone eventually does.

Cheers.
