I watched young college "Conservatives" on CSPAN have a book Review

I guess that is what they were doing..... I will have to admit that a lot of the books I had not herd of, I was a double major Bio and chemistry not philosophy. But what I came away with watching 1/2 hour of it is, they all think pretty highly of themselves, even the panel was very full of themselves. I guess if you spend(there parents spent) the money for the colleges these pseudo-intellectuals are attending you have no other choice but to think highly of yourself.

But still one thing bothers me, a lot seem to agree that Ayn Rand is essential to their conservative ethos. I, again will admit not reading "Fountain Head" but I did go to her web site and find that she seemed a very level headed philosopher. Objectivity would be great if only Republicans would actually be open minded-ly objective. She also sounded a bit of an Atheist, this would not fit in with the Theocratic Right. The only Right Wing or Conservative ideal I could see would be her view on politics just being Capitalism there she proves to be off her rocker...(from www.aynrand.org) And my last point is you must look at the time period when she was writing (1930s) she was interested in obviously thwarting Fascism and Communism with her ideas.... note the last sentence about Church and State

2. i see that in the Capitalism thing but

no mention of God just man's moral good and man's ability to be a rational thinker.....
all of that would put the NeoCon theocrats on their back sides (putting it politely)

My only reading I have done since college has been Sephen J. Gould a great rational thinker a great mind!

3. Objectivity? a philosophy that ignores inherent inequality is hardly so.

if everyone began at the same starting point, it might be more palatable, but it breaks down in several ways since there is no inherent equality between people not sustained by a social contract. randians dismiss this as unreasonable application of force upon their freedoms.

most people i know who are influenced by rand are young, stupid or both

I guess I will have to plead some ignorance, as I stated earlier S. Gould is the only author I have read since college, I guess I did read "If you ride with Bin Laden" by Bill Maher but I mean a heavy book....
