A self-confessed Liberal gets the "Welcome Mat" at Freeperville
The poster's name is "nosurrender". Don't know if he is one of us or not, but he is holding his own. Not a hateful word from him, but he gets blasted anyway. Not all of the Freeps posted venom, but here is a sample of the love and compassion that a few felt the irresistible urge to share...

"The war in Iraq did not distract from the WOT.John sKerry distracted the war on terror. We could go into 30+ more countries and not distract from the war."

"Go back to DU!"

"Don't care what you think.
We, Red State, people will do the fighting for you. Or not for you. You go ahead and live your life. Sleep well, eat a big breakfast. Drive your Honda. Read Mother Jones by the fire. Feed the squirrels. Somewhere your betters, real men and women, are on patrol in Falooja, standing midnight watch far to Sea, flying with the moon and stars seven miles high, or resting in a hero's grave in a small town in America."

"obviously you are not very well read and get your info from the MSM..No connection between all you mention ?..I suggest Victor Davis Hanson for starts ..Iraq was for starters the $$ behind terrorist training , a breeding ground , weapons store etc ..Oh yes you must have forgotten about WTC I as well ..READ MORON"

"ummm sorry we dont need to talk to each other.
i want the left in this country destroyed nearly as much as i want the terrorists destroyed. i have no use for dumbocraps ever in my life."

"Look, I never had much time for liberal twits with their collectivist economics, libertine social policies, or their kumbaya views of globalism, but I always, at least, respected the left's willingness to stand with us on the right to fight against tyranny. With your utter failure to lift a finger to help us remove the biggest threat this world has ever known, I no longer have ANY reason to respect you people."

1. Why bother?
I don't. The FReepers are too far gone for ordinary conversation.

They voted for Bush.

For their arrogance in ignorance, let them reap the whirlwind.

"I feel that I was lied to about this war"

Who lied to you? I do not understand why it is so difficult for some people to judge character. Bush does not lie for sport like his predecessor did. Nor is he totally deceptive. It is not his nature!

6. The collective intelligence there could power a 1/4 watt LED
dimly. The worse things get, the less they appear to confront reality. They are quickly becoming irrelevant. Buffoons for Bush.

9. Heheh.

Knowing how little power it takes to power a LED dimly, I perhaps found that funnier than most.

If this dipshit is doing the fighting for us, wtf is he doing typing on his computer? He should be in Iraq fighting the real enemy.

"Somewhere your betters..." Give me a fucking break, chickenhawk piece of shit.

11. Geez, Cheney is a 'red state people' ain't he?
...and he got 5 deferments to avoid fighting for us. Instead, we fought so that he could reach his present pinnacle of success and wealth.

58,000 dead in Nam...Cheney still alive.

18. There seem to be an awful lot of soldiers from my blue state dying
Plenty of soldiers from Michigan have lost their lives in Iraq and Afganistan. I'm sure the same is true of pretty much every state, blue or red.

13. But Red state folks AREN'T doing "the dying"
Edited on Mon Aug-22-05 05:43 AM by theHandpuppet
At least not in the numbers that blue states are offering up their children for this abominable war.

The Freeper who wrote this:

"Don't care what you think.
We, Red State, people will do the fighting for you. Or not for you. You go ahead and live your life. Sleep well, eat a big breakfast. Drive your Honda. Read Mother Jones by the fire. Feed the squirrels. Somewhere your betters, real men and women, are on patrol in Falooja, standing midnight watch far to Sea, flying with the moon and stars seven miles high, or resting in a hero's grave in a small town in America."

... ought to consider that the five states which have lost the most sons and daughters in this war are California, New York (many from NYC) and Pennsylvania. Texas and Ohio (where Bush's apporval ranks in the 30's) round out the top five in total Iraq War deaths. Florida, another prime satellite in the Bush "red empire", ranks among the very lowest, as do most "red states".

In addition, three very "blue" spots have the highest deaths per thousand deployed in the Iraq/Afghan conflict: Washington, D.C., Vermont, and yes, Massachusetts. (see http://www.vnews.com/war/deathsper1000deployed.htm )

Lastly, Vermont has the second-highest per-capita number of reservists currently called to active duty, behind Hawaii -- both blue states.

That big mouth ought to know that many sons and daughters of blue states are already doing the fighting -- and dying -- for him.

15. They are true sheeple.
I honestly believe they base the most important thing in their lives is complete loyalty to their leader.

This forms the basis for their life ethic.

BTW I was banned from Freerepublic after making one post. I posted Smedley Butler's "War is a Racket" speech.

I was hoping for some good contructive arguments with right wingers. Instead I got banned after 5 minutes.

17. I followed that last night
NoSurrender has a lot of integrity. He is going in there, keeping calm, and honestly calling for dialogue. And yes, most of the Freepers are pretty vocal and close-minded( in that regard, sort of like me), but some of them are actually trying to dialogue. All and all, I'm impressed by NoSurrender. It takes a lot of nerve to do that and to do it the way he is going about it. Incidentally, I wonder if I would be as open to dialogue if a Freeper showed up here. In my case, the irony is that I came here by way of FreeRepublic ( I was doing some research over there - seriously - and heard them trashing DU, figured I belonged here).

21. What is telling to me about things like this
Edited on Mon Aug-22-05 07:49 PM by TheWatcher
is that they seem to be conveying the message that they are simply not willing to co-exist with people that do not share their beliefs. And this is a very dangerous problem that is going to exist even when Bush is long gone and even IF the Democrats manage to regain power.

They want to see the left, or anyone who disagrees with them "destroyed", whatever that means.

We cannot and will not reach these people. They appear to want another Civil War. I am not sure if they are really brave enough to ultimately take this to the streets, but if they are it will be their undoing.

I have said time and again, if any of these freaks come after me or my family, they better have their houses in order, and they had better be prepared to play for keeps.

Because I will. And they will NOT come home from a confrontation with me.

22. Interesting take
I usually ignore the FR folks, but lately I know it is about getting truth out. Of course judging from the responses these people are as delusional as ever. They keep forgetting that there are many soldiers who do not agree with the war, or with them. My daughter being the first that comes to mind. They keep forgetting that we put Saddam in power, financed the Taliban on and on and on. They ignore blatant lies or sidestep them. The folk I know who actually think like this all have something mentally wrong. Issues, I believe is the term. Projection is one defense mechanism they have down to perfection. Scratch beneath the surface of any hard core freeper and you find what is very similar a the mind of a chronic criminal or an addict. Completely self serving usually due to some sort of ego damage. But some folks just don't know, and haven't learn to think for themselves. They just follow the herd. These are the ones who have a chance to pull themselves out of that mental abyss called frepperville, with some information, some encouragement and a little open dialog
