My International Relations professor said today about TV news...
paraphrasing:

"Don't watch the news for this class, if you do that you won't know anything" then he listed off a few papers to check out, some in other countries, of course, the stalwarts like the WA Post and NY Times. He mentioned Le Monde, The Guardian a few others.

But, yeah, he said watching TV or listening to talk radio was not a good thing. He stopped short of actually saying it might make you dumber but that's what he was getting at, lol.

Funny, I had two professors in different classes mention Rush Limbaugh. Not in a particularly good way either time, but teachers gotta be objective so they didn't get too harsh. It was more like, "you might now want to listen to this guy for this class." haha

2. no kidding
Dittohead 4 life! You better recognize!

I like how people get labeled as Liberal just for simply not being stupid or crazy. These guys on the Right call John McCain "Liberal" for heaven's sake! McCain isn't Liberal, he's just not totally nuts like most of the Republican party is. :)

3. I had a great Western Civ professor my freshman year.
He's a Bob Dylan fanatic who played Highway 61 in class, assigned novels as reading assignments, and threw the book out the window when only one student could or would participate. That was usually me, because I was so in tune with him.

8. Ah, the memories. My very first International Relations class...
Edited on Tue Aug-23-05 04:12 AM by nine23
...was back in 1980 at Simon Fraser University, a VERY liberal arts institution in Vancouver.

At the time, the Shah of Iran was travelling globe, "looking for exile" in any country that would take him; the Iran/Iraq war had just started with vengeance, Ronald "Ray-Gun" (the "first" shitty actor/politician in the US) had just been elected...

Our prof told us EXACTLY THE SAME THING about US media, and even suggested EXACTLY the same newspapers as yours did (along with some others). Then, he showed us a slide of a one "Donald H. Rumsfeld" standing next to a one "Saddam Hussein" on a battlefield in Iraq, AND WE WERE OFF TO THE RACES!!!

First day of class. Ah, good times...
