Why Bush and the right wing aren't viciously attacking Joe Finkelstein
Joe Finkelstein is my next-door neighbor. He's a city engineer and father of three children. He mows his lawn every two days, creating those meticulous diagonal lines. He's a decent guy.

I don't hear George Bush, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Bill O' Reilly, Glen Beck, Dr. Laura, Michael Reagan, Michael Medved, Michael Savage, Ken Mehlman or dozens of other right-wing radio commentaries attacking, maligning and ridiculing my neighbor Joe Finkelstein.

Do you know why?

Because Joe isn't leading an effective, courageous protest that has eroded support for the Iraq war and played a hand in lowering Bush's approval ratings.

I heard A LOT of right-wing, hate radio today. They all downplayed Cindy Sheehan and what she is doing. They say she's not having an impact and that her protest is a shameful failure. I kept thinking, "Gee. If Cindy is SO ineffectual and such a an embarrassment, why are hundreds of commentators discussing her for hours?

Cindy Sheehan is having a monumental impact on America's attitude toward Bush and his war. She's inspired many to speak out. She's sparked additional Bush protests. She's galvanized those who used to feel isolated and alone. The right-wing is terrified. Deathly terrified. Since their lies are indefensible and their policies incomprehensible--they only thing they can do is attack Cindy through right-wing radiobots who mock and degrade her.

Furthermore, Bush's pathetic words today, which accuse the anti-war movement of weakening America--are the words of a drowning man who is sinking--because a concerned, loving, just mother is beating him at his own game.

Don't believe the Republicans when they laugh off Cindy Sheehan or insist that (as Limbaugh said today), "she's not having any effect" or that "her little plan has failed and she's changed nothing".

My neighbor, Joe Finkelstein--isn't having any effect. He's a decent guy, but there's a reason the right-wing isn't paying attention to him.

He's not effectively exposing their lies, derailing their crimes, obliterating their poll numbers and revealing how corrupt and destructive they are.

2. Did "Dr" Laura criticize Cindy Sheehan?
I can imagine her doing so, but I hadn't heard that she actually had run her mouth.

6. I heard Dr Laura got off the radio
because she refused to constantly spout the GOP party line only.

7. I heard she got off the radio b/c she was nuts
and people stopped listening to her.

On Mike Malloy's show last Friday or Monday. Actually the only MM show I've ever heard - a friend convinced me to download an archive from WhiteRoseSociety.org.

11. I haven't heard this...
...I'm interested in hearing more.

Did she decide to quit her show? Or did were the ratings slipping?

I haven't heard that her program is being canceled or that she's quitting. She was on here tonight.

Although I don't agree with Dr. Laura on many, many things--she is not a purist, right-wing radio shill for Junior. Not in the way that Rush or Hannity are, anyway.

I could see her show being canceled. I'll bet there's a right-wing wacko just waiting in the wings to catapult the propaganda for Junior. Clear Channel probably wants all of the shows to be blind neocon loyalists.

Sickening.

8. Yes, Dr. Laura has spoken out against Sheehan a few times...
...and today Dr. Laura read "An Open Letter to Cindy Sheehan". Please forgive me, but I'm unsure who the author was. The last name might be Collier.

Dr. Laura was advocating the point of view in the letter--which basically said that Sheehan was dishonoring her son's memory with her anti-war actions. The letter also claimed that Cindy was really angry with her son, and not at Bush. The letter was loaded with right-wing hate and disinformation.

After Dr. Laura read the letter she talked about her own son--who recently quit college to join the military. She went on quite a bit, and clearly, is no friend of Cindy.

It was upsetting to hear all of this because of the disinformation. Dr. Laura was making the point that any mother should be proud of a son who would have such passion, conviction and commitment. Who could disagree with that? I wanted to scream into the radio...we're upset because the passion, conviction and commitment of these amazing, brave men (including your son, Dr Laura) is being used and exploited by a group of warmongering, evil scum who only view these soldiers as chess pieces in their world-domination games.

Dr. Laura is very anti-Sheehan--but she usually comes down on the side of the neocons. Sad.

I hope that her son stays safe.

13. Reminds me of the quote by Mahatma Gandhi:
First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.

They're at the fighting stage now.

Cindy Sheehan will win. Make no mistake about it. Just a matter of time. We will win.

He's meticulous about his lawn.

He has an irrigation system, so it grows pretty fast.

He uses an edger at least once a week, and he mows in such a way that creates these amazing, diagonal lines on his lawn.

His lawn looks like a park!

16. i have underground sprinklers, and am proud of my lawn, but geeeezz!
kentucky bluegrass just doesn't grow THAT fast.

maybe he's got tall fescue or worse, foxtail or nutsedge -- those grow fast, but are generally considered weeds.

does he mow twice each time, to create that diagonal crosshatch pattern you often see on gold courses? i'm hoping he has a riding mower or a very small lawn!

17. Welcome to DU lawn talk...where the grass is always greener.
...haha!

I laughed when you suggested that my neighbor's lawn has weeds. If my neighbor had a weed--I'm sure alarms would sound inside his house and a giant sprayer full of Weed-Be-Gone would appear and douse the weed.

The lawn DOES look like a golf course! It's so plush...I just want to roll in it. It's a beautiful emerald green.

I don't know if he mows twice each time. However, he does have that beautiful diagonal pattern. The lawn looks slightly two toned--dark green squares and slightly lighter green squares.

He has a fairly good-sized lawn. He has a corner lot. No riding lawn mower either!

It sounds like you're into mowing and taking care of your lawn, too. Anyone with an in-ground sprinkler system is into their lawn.

I wonder what he would think of me disclosing his personal horticulture habits on a messageboard???? :) I don't know if he's a Dem or a Rep.

Happy mowing! Do you have the diagonal pattern, as well?

18. if he has the two-tone square effect, then he mows twice
diagonally sw-to-ne and then diagonally se-to-nw. then again, if he's mowing so frequently, maybe he just alternates every other day.

personally, i just vary it each time i mow. mowing the exact same way each time creates ruts in the soil. so i'll mow up-down, then left-right, then diagonally, etc., each one or two weeks apart.

i can't imagine mowing every other day! if i actually got home before dark on a workday (i live in nj and work in manhattan, rarely get home before 8pm), i sure wouldn't spend the evening mowing!

the underground sprinkler was the first home improvement we made. we bought the house in a nice neighborhood where houses were being bought up after being listed no more than 3 days, but THIS house sat on the market for 3 months. why? because the lawn was a DISASTER! over 50% weeds and over knee high, at that. some people just don't know how to sell a house -- curb appeal, hello!

anyway, we got the house for a steal as a result, and rehabilitating the lawn has surely paid for itself several times over.
