Norah O'Donnell drinks the Kool-Aid
Norah, of MSNBC, was filling in for Mathews and was interviewing former FBI agent Coleen Rowley, who is running for Congress in Minnesota.

http://mediamatters.org/items/200508230004

From the August 22 edition of MSNBC's Hardball:

O'DONNELL: Coleen, let me ask you, why do you support Cindy Sheehan's anti-war position?

ROWLEY: Well, I happened to be a person who spoke out publicly against the war a couple of weeks before it was started and warned that it would prove counterproductive to our efforts to combat terrorism. And if you have gone through this chain of mistakes that started with the pre-9-11 lapses and you have seen all of these errors that have occurred since, very serious to our country's security. I don't think you can do anything, except continue to speak out.

O'DONNELL: You're a Democrat running for Congress. It was reported that Republican leaders in your state were just thrilled that you had decided to align yourself with anti-war extremists. Do you think that this could affect your race for Congress?

ROWLEY: Well, I will quickly correct the record that they are not anti-war extremists. The majority of the people I saw down in Crawford were actually veterans groups. There were military families and --

O'DONNELL: But, Coleen, they do oppose the war in Iraq, do they not?

ROWLEY: Yes, they do. But that does not make, I guess the term extremists. They're really, I think, reflective of mainstream America in many ways.

1. I watched that sickening display, then saw her
as a news anchor today. I'm hoping the station rec'd enough e-mail from us to demote her. She was so transparent.

2. O'Donnell is a GOP fascist Bush war shipper. I can't stand this evil
media whore vermin. She is, i'm sure a payola Bush queen, paid by your tax dollars to promote the greed and death policies of this most satanic administration.

6. What's worse was watching Mark Williams rip Colleen a new one
Colleen couldn't explain why/how she thought we should stay in Iraq. There's a good reason for that: we shouldn't. She's playing the "mainstream Democrat" game of trying to sugarcoat the truth, and she got rolled when Mark called her on it.

9. So, opposing the war = extreme position
Herm. What about the majority who don't think Bush is doing a good job right now. Are they extremists too?

I wonder if folks are starting to catch on finally. Maybe this bullshit won't work anymore.

11. wikipedia is already on it!

<snip>
On the August 22nd, 2005 edition of Hardball, O'Donnell served as guest host and characterized anti-war demonstrators like Cindy Sheehan as "anti-war extremists" in an exchange with former FBI whistleblower Coleen Rowley, who is now running for Congress in Minnesota as a Democrat. Rowley, a supporter of Sheehan, took issue with that comment and said that the protestors were not anti-war extremists but "reflective of mainstream America in many ways." O'Donnell quickly defended her characterization by saying "But, Coleen, they do oppose the war in Iraq, do they not?"

Many liberal blogs such as DailyKos and Atrios took issue with O'Donnell's characterization. They point to recent polling data that shows a solid majority of Americans who now believe that the invasion of Iraq was a mistake and criticize O'Donnell for essentially claiming that the majority of Americans are extremists.

13. not sure what to make of this
just last month O'Donnell was a hero on DU for putting Plamegate into perspective and saying it could go very high into the Administration.

I remember her calling out Bush at a press conference as well about the Mission Accomplished Banner which led to the story about it being a White House front team creation.

Of course, I completely disagree with her characterization today, but I'm not about to call her evil, or accuse her of drinking the "kool aid".

30. She has such pretty hair.
It's a shame, really.

Wouldn't an "anti-war" extremist by definition be about the business of blowing things up instead of standing around with candles, singing and praying?

Makes Norah seem like something of a hysterical, hyperbolic dumbell.

18. They are all like that
It is enough to make me want to scream. Sometimes I do. If you watch the Today Show every day, you can start to catch all the little ways they are a Republican media machine. They use Michael Medved as a film expert, they interview some whacko who wrote some dumbass book about the '100 People Who Are Hurting American The Most' and 'lo and behold...they are nearly all of them Democrats and liberals.

I really hate that show.

19. Simple: if you're against the war, you hate god and you're a terrorist
Anyone protesting the war is an extremist, a traitor, a wild-eyed communist and has bad breath.

Makes ya wonder about that global struggle against extremism, huh?

addressed the "extremist" crack.

While waiting for KO to start today, I saw the end of Hardball, and Matthews talking about Robertson to two Repub guests said, "Well, he IS the head of our party." Nice.

33. media patsies
It seems like a lot of media folk either stay on what they consider to be the safe side, or act like they "need to keep their opinions to themselves". Manyy of the talk show hosts I listen to on my radio station, Wisconsin Public Radio, are just keen on showing a "happy face" and/or their brains are like sieves that never hold anything, so they don't really have to have a true opinion. Want to hold on to their cushy jobs. The "emperor has no clothes" syndrome.
