Fox front page has a photo of Bush being hugged by the jubilant "Iraq Mom"

Tammy Pruett, who has five kids serving in Iraq, hugs Bush.
Bush: U.S. 'Bringing Justice'
President thanks the troops
Commander in chief visits with Idaho National Guard, many of whom are likely to return to Iraq

BOISE, Idaho — Pulling U.S. troops out of Iraq too early would hurt that country's fledgling democracy as well as American security efforts, President Bush told members of the National Guard in Idaho on Wednesday. "Our nation is involved in a global War on Terror that affects the safety and security of every American," Bush said. "We'll complete our work in Afghanistan and Iraq ... an immediate withdrawal of our troops in Iraq or a broader Middle East, as some have called for, will only embolden the terrorists and create a staging ground to launch attacks against America and other free countries. So long as I am president, we will stay and we will fight and will win the War on Terror."

"In the War on Terror, you're bringing justice to the enemies and honor to the uniform and our country is grateful for your service," Bush told the crowd, noting that 19 presidents of the United States have served in the National Guard, and he is one of them. "You're not only protecting the American homeland — you're also taking the fight to the enemy." Bush also thanked the families of American service men and women in times of heavy sacrifice. "The families are standing for America and America appreciates the service and the sacrifice of the military families," he said. "There are few things more difficult than seeing a loved one go to war."

Bush will later meet at the Mountain Home Air Force Base near Boise with 19 families — not all of which are from Idaho — who lost loved ones in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. He is meeting privately with each individual family before returning to his Texas ranch in the evening.

Among the families scheduled to meet with Bush was 18-year-old Stevie Bitah. Her father father, Army National Guard Staff Sgt. Virgil R. Case, died June 1 from non-combat related wounds in Iraq. "At first, I was kind of scared to do it — I didn't know what to expect. There's been lots of anger and sadness," Bitah said. "If I met with him, I think he'd know that this person I lost was important to me — not only to me, but to my entire family." Bitah said she does not share the anti-war views of Cindy Sheehan, the California woman who lost a son in Iraq and has given momentum to the peace movement by holding a vigil near Bush's ranch in Crawford, Texas. But Bitah said she hopes American forces will return soon to spare other families the loss she endured. "I don't think he intended to go over there and have people lose family members. He's doing it for specific reasons; he's doing it to protect our country," Bitah said of Bush. "My dad chose to go over there and that's something he was proud of, and our family was proud of him."

3. I think an 18 year old has to believe that he dad died for a noble
purpose to keep from becoming so depressed that she goes postal.

In fact, I feel bad for her and that woman who has all those families members serving. I hope she never has to learn of that pain of losing any one of her sons. I also believe they joined up with the best intentions, and their service is appreciated. But I wonder if those good intentions are preventing them from seeing the truth and the lies. And least for now.

4. This woman hasn't gone through
what Cindy Sheehan has. Perhaps, her views would change if she had to bury one of her children.
I sincerely hope that doesn't happen.

5. Don't bet on it
The truth is that there are people who WANT to believe...so they do. I would be willing to bet that there are plenty of people who feel COMFORTED after their children's deaths that they died for a noble cause.

Whatever it is this week.

12. Thei religion is based on blind faith
They are told that in order to be "saved" they "must believe." Reason and doubt go out the window with people having such rigid religious views. No wonder they worship at the feet of Bush.

6. My relative whose son just got deployed for the 2nd time
protested outside the Nampa Center and refused to use her ticket. At least the local news covered that.

I just watched the taped replay of the speech and believe me the older the people the more enthused they were. I watched thousands of troops with very somber attitudes and only polite applause.

W is disgusting in using naive folks for political points.

7. I'm really sorry I'm so cynical...
...but I just can't help but feel there's more to this story. I mean, I feel like so many of Bush's audiences are staged, and you hear about paid journalists and crap like that. Ya just have to wonder about things like this and how truthful it really is. Maybe it's legit, but the record of this administration in these PR moments has left me questioning everything.

8. The Idaho GOP had total control of the tickets
Supposedly 6,000 went to troops but last night's local news showed 2 wives of Iraqis servicemen who were unable to get tickets.

My affluent Republican friend who will not allow her son to enlist but who gives freely to the GOP received two tickets.

that wasn't staged? No reason to believe this was anything different.

11. That's not cynical, that's just observation skills
Bush packs any venue where he gives a speech with supporters. It is a long standing practice.

13. Creepy,yet...
I know that you get major eye rolling from Repukes if you compare Bush to Hitler. And honestly, come to think of it, the analogy really doesn't ring that true.

Hitler was supposed to have been a genius.

It was, though, part of his cult of personality (as usual).

18. Yes, will she smile and hug him that tightly if she loses a child?
THAT will be the Pulitzer Prize-winning photo.

Ms. Pruett, smiling just as she is here, hiving a big, warm, heartfelt hug to God's Little Chosen Prince following the combat death of one or more of her children.

If she isn't smart enough to know that she was set up for a photo op in order to rub Cindy Sheehan's nose in it, she isn't smart enough...PERIOD.

17. I hope the Repugs choose Mrs. Pruett as their chosen mom...and...
...sign up all their kids and husband to go to the PNAC War.

We need to spin this story that way.
