Convince my girlfriend to go to drive with me down to Crawford tomorrow.
She's even more liberal than I am, but I think she's kind of scared to make the drive. She doesn't know what to expect down there. Plus, it would be a slight monetary sacrifice (which we could handle- but, still).

Anyway, I'm wanting to head down there for the weekend, and maybe Monday, hang out for a bit. What's going on down there? Pique her interest, if you could. :)

1. It's life changing. Life affirming.
Where are you driving from? We were down there the first Saturday 8/13, driving down and back from DFW just for the day.

It was crazy, but I felt inexorably pulled there. We HAD to go. I can't explain it.

Fortunately, my husband was on the same page, so we went. I'm so glad we did. I'll never forget standing at Camp Casey (then only the one), and looking back and seeing cars coming for as far as the eye could see.

It gave me chills.

It's history in the making.

GO!

We drove to NYC once, though, and it was even farther.

She's reading this right now. :)

9. Think of it this way. You'll never regret going....
but you may very well regret not going.

Be a part of history. Be a part of the movement. Now is the time for all good men and women to stand UP and be counted!

I SOOOO want to go back this weekend, but I don't know if I'll be able to convince the spouse. Also, we've got 2 little kids, so it's more complicated. If I was unencumbered, I'd be there in a heartbeat.

GO!

13. Nobody ever changed anything sitting on their ass.
Whatever she is afraid of, she can overcome.

Whatever she thinks might happen, might.

Staying at home instead of going sends a bad message to this administration. (sorry, had to play on them a bit)

Go together and back each other up.

Its extremely rewarding to go. You will see things and feel things that you probably wouldnt have before.

Plus, at the end of the day, you can stop in Belton at the Big Red and have some great cheeseburgers and onion rings. Good enough reason for me to go!!

We plan to go back this Saturday as things seem to be heating up down there and I think the camps need all the support they can get.

15. It's worth it. I drove it alone (4.5 hours) Saturday and it was well
worth it. How often to you get to participate in history-in-the-making ON PURPOSE?

Here's your chance.

mid/hi 70's at night, w/portapotties galore, food water shuttle. Don't bring more than you can carry--and some bucks for the CPH/buffet. A spray water bottle for cooling yourself, spend 3 dollars @ Walgreens for a personal fan you can hang around your neck, and you're good to go.

The BIG tent is shady & last weekend breezy & the weather report for cent/so TX is GORGEOUS but hot.

Remind yourselves that it's WAY hotter & crappier in Iraq. And that 45 y/o 6foot one mother of 2 elehhhna slept in her Huyundai in the CPH parking lot last weekend, which was like sleeping in a dishwasher, and you can handle it!

I can't go this wkend--my girls are coming down with something. I don't feel cheated in not meeting Cindy. But give her a wink or a kiss from me, please? My daughters will be draft age in the next Administration.

godspeed,

e

EDIT: they say no more room for tents @C2. Trust me, you can sleep on the ground.

2. Cindy Sheehan's success, bringing the troops home, will ...
...save thousands of American lives. If going to Crawford hasten's her success, you owe it to those who you will save (as well as their kids and families and friends). Go to Texas!

5. This is history in the making.
I used to ask my mother, "Did you go to Kent State?" "Did you march on Washington?" "Did you go to Woodstock"?

She would always smile and say she may have wanted to, but didn't go.

Camp Casey is history being made. You'll be able to say you stood with Cindy Sheehan. Not just metaphorically, but physically. This is your chance to mark a moment in time that you will never forget, and a story that you can proudly retell for the rest of your life.

I bet you won't regret it!

28. I, like your mother, didn't do any of those things during Viet Nam
and I really regret it to this day. The only one you never would have got me to was Woodstock - I have a thing about being in a crowd that size, half of whom are stoned and puking all over the place, and no where to go to the bathroom. Tell your girlfriend about the stories she'll be able to tell her grandchildren when they ask "Did you go down to see Cindy Sheehan and help stop the war?"

I didn't make myself clear on that. I'm here getting involved whenever I can.

I think you two would be very happy that you went down to Crawford bringing lots of water. I know you want to BullGoose and after your girlfriend reads all the reasons why it would be a great idea..I think she'll be sold :D

Bon Voyage :toast:

10. Listen.... If You Missed Viet Nam & the Protests
take my word, you'll want to be a part of this "new history"! And when you get my age, you'll look back and say... WOW, I think I made a difference.

Then there's that old adage "if you don't stand up for something, you'll fall for anything"!

Does that help?? If not then plan a trip to D.C. on the 24th for the Protest. I'm sure Cindy will be there!

:)

The other thing is that my g/f's brother-in-law's brother is over there in Iraq right now. The brother-in-law himself probably wouldn't be very sympathetic to the cause. He's kind of a tough guy. He also is quite "defiant" when it comes to wearing seatbelts, though. Not always the sharpest tool- but, a tool.

I think my girlfriend's worried he'd find out and get angry.

She knows that this is the best thing for them. I told her it's just like telling him to wear his seatbelt.

I DO know how the military works. Sir, Yes, Sir!!! That's about it, and don't you forget it! But many families got torn apart during Viet Nam. Do what YOUR heart tells you!

from the blogs and videos it seems like a magical place. You all won't be alone, the cops/sheriff have been cool, the food is great and the music is better.

I hear Randi Rhodes will be there saturday and Rev. Al on sunday. It's a great place to get a tan, and maybe help get our country back.

23. watch out, but still go
The word I have from someone who's been spending a lot of time in Crawford there'll be a caravan of pro-Bushies rolling in from California (and gathering people along the way). This coming weekend is liable to be rather lively with a larger number of opposing people.

Not trying to dissuade you from going. I still think you should go. Just thought I'd share that little bit of info.

If our side is large, peaceful and determined, I'd bet that the pro-Bushies will manage to unzip themselves and show the real contrast in the two points of view.

24. LOL I live in a city full of idiots.
We're constantly surrounded (probably not as bad some places) by Bushbots.

We've learned to not talk politics much, but it's about time we got some practice.

And I can yell and scream with the best of them.

25. Please tell her
that I'd LOVE for her to go for me-give a report, please!! I have to experience this vicariously thru all you fabulous posters here and throughout the internets because of where I live.

I came very close to going that first weekend-but, it's a 30+ hour drive for me - then I realized it would be a 30+ hour ride home also. (derrrrr)

So, go! Don't think it out -just let things happen. It sure sounds like everyone there has the same objective of peaceful support.

I've been impressed beyond words by this whole evolution (*rev*lution?) and have believed since I first read that Cindy had decided to to do this, that this IS IT!!!!! I agree that it's definitely history in the making! So, stop "thinking" and just experience it- a zen weekend, so to speak. Good luck! (I'll even chip in some gas money if you need it) :hi:
