Should Pols Swear Off War Profits & Re-Install Windfall Profits Tax |
|
If this war is all about security and the spread of democracy, then why should anyone sully those lofty goals by reaping obscene profits as a result of investments in warprofiteering corporations?
Each Senator, Representative, and Executive Branch Official-- including President Bush and his appointees, should publicly pledge they will not profit from their investment interests in corporations engaged in providing military support, securing Iraq or rebuilding Iraq(Halliburton, etc.). Same for Afghanistan.
And corporations and their representatives should do their part as well by not fighting imposition of a "windfall tax" which would tax the profits associated with the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan at the rate of 80% or higher.
WE can learn a lot by examining the role of corporations and their profits during WWII, and the work of the Truman Commission to root out warprofiteering and corruption.

1. Exactly, it's time to call their bluff! Let's make 'em pay back all the $ |

they've already looted while we're at it.
The Dems have proposed legislation to set up a Truman-style commission, but the GOP is oppposed, of course. These people need to be held accountable. If the GOP grassroots could get fired up enough to push for it, maybe it would happen. Once they realize it's their money (and their childrens' and grandchildrens') being stolen, maybe they will.
