CNN's Blitzer has some LBN about Department of Army screwing up DNA
Tests for 15 years??? I checked DU's Latest Breaking and couldn't find anything. CNN's David Ensor said: "Well...Wolf it's the latest Friday Night Dump."

Does anyone know what this is about? I hit CNN Headline News, CBS and couldn't find a peep about this DNA screwup...falsifying DNA in Court Cases and WHY it's even important. And...why would it be the Army who would be in trouble over this. :eyes:

If anyone can link me to this...thanks..

2. Well isn't this interesting
" WASHINGTON - The Army is investigating allegations that a civilian forensic examiner at the Army Criminal Investigation Laboratory at Fort Gillem, Ga., falsified DNA test results.

The allegations, if true, would throw into doubt hundreds of criminal cases dating back at least a decade...

...The Fort Gillem lab is the only Army facility that performs forensic examinations in support of military criminal cases. It provides services to all military investigative agencies and is the only accredited full-service crime lab in the federal government outside the
FBI.

5. why its important?
Are you kidding me? This is basic American justice 101, if DNA is faulty it means 100s of convictions may have been wrongfully decided because of the actions of one person.

This is an example that reminds us that:

1. DNA is NOT foolproof and is only as good as the people who process the information

2. we need constant checks and balances of laboratories

I can guess that a few cases will be overturned if it turns out DNA evidence was a central piece of evidence upon which a conviction was based and it falls under one of these 100s of cases.

6. Hard to know if this is a witch hunt against this person for one
falsification which is only important to Bush Administration. They only have him on falsifying one DNA report...according to MSNBC...so maybe he had a "grudge" in that one case?

If there were "hundreds" one would need to figure out this guy's motivation.

Why would Blitzer break in for this story, though. Why did this story need to be the "Friday Dump?"

It's hard to know. :shrug:If Court Martials occurred on False DNA Evidence though...it would seem to be pretty bad.

8. All those confirmations of "terrorists" deaths were based on DNA
evidence from the scenes of US bombings, remember Tora Bora?

9. Can you elaborate...
on what this means. Why would terrorists deaths be sent to this examiner in Georgia. How would he find corroborating DNA to examine in the case of "terrorists" whose relatives wouldn't be available for samples.

It's very confusing read, this article. We aren't told exactly what his group was investigating but that it was the only DNA testing group outside the FBI.

There must be something BIG about this because of the Friday Dump. But, I don't get the connection to testing terrorists DNA. You may be correct but I just wonder about the corroborating DNA.

What else could they have been examining that the one case caused such a storm that Wolfie had to do a "Breaking News" in the middle of his show.

10. Perhaps this will clarify
may shed some light on what I meant.

I have seen numerous references to using DNA to confirm who we had killed, looking for important victims among the mangled remains, I imagine.

11. Wow! this does make this VERY INTERESTING....
My worry is that given the Bushies are in deep doo doo...what if this person is being trashed unfairly? What if he really was doing a responsible job but like all the Bush "whistle blowers" is being discredited. Maybe he was ready to blow that we captures and killed Bin Laden...but the Bushies do NOT want us to know this?

I know this sounds :tinfoilhat: but I have trouble believing any news released from our "Military/Industrial/Government" which controls the media. Since Wolf Blitzer broke into his "Situation Room" thing on CNN about this...it makes me wonder.

This article is interesting. I had missed all the forensic work that was bing done about Tora Bora.

Many thanks for passing this along. I may be too "tinfoil" but it's interesting that this news has broken this weekend with Bush's poll numbers down.
