27. The crosses at Camp Casey were the only public honor these dead
soldiers have received. Otherwise, America doesn't even know their names.

4. Maybe Camp Casey should remove their names.
And just replace those crosses with plain white crosses.

That will help the world and those families so much.

:sarcasm:

8. That handwriting looks as bad as mine, but at least i can spell
"Loved ones" and "Families"

I think most people that have poor penmanship know they do so why would that person not ask someone else to write the sign?

Just curious

31. One of them has the middle name of a comma, so they're different guys
Edited on Sat Aug-27-05 09:24 AM by Bucky
But keep in mind that James Beckstrand's family has lost their son/brother/father in a war and must be haunted by the fact that the war was entirely optional, a vanity war waged because that's where the oil was. I won't judge people harshly who've gone thru (and must continue to live with) that kind of trauma. Every ounce of their hearts must struggle to believe that James's death was for a good cause, for a worthy goal that promoted something beside Halliburton's annual report.

If James's family is united in saying remove the cross, then remove the cross. They've more than earned their say.

35. Oh, I wasn't commenting at all on the Beckstrand's
choice of removing James's cross. Or the James' cross, what ever the case may be. I was suggesting maybe Mr Qualls thought 18 names looked much more impressive than 17.

18. I'm having fun reading it as it's actually written
It seems to say that some family owns several "that," and those "that" want their love (I'm sure we can all relate). Oh yeah, and one of the that must be angry about something.

at Faux who gave out the address of the family in La Habra, Ca. on the air. One of the vandals spray painted 'Terrist' on the house. In my email to Faux, I suggested that it represented the average IQ of their viewers.

IMHO I think the crosses should be left blank.

But I'm not there, and I wouldn't dream of second guessing anyone that is there.
But back when this Qualls thing started, that was the thought I had.

22. That is a really sad picture.
All those names of fallen innocents, labeled with such unschooled innocence.

But the lack of education revealed in the misspellings, extra apostrophes, etc., helps explain their desperate clinging to Bush's myths. They simply don't have the resources to see through them.

Hey - at least they spelled "Sheehan" correctly!

29. This sort of thing irks the living hell out of me.
Why do they always do this? Why advertise how stupid you are?

I can respect having a message, and your right to express yourself. But if you are going to use the spelling, grammar, and penmanship of a second grader, it totally detracts from your message.

Beyond that,in this case, it is totally disrespecful to the troops and their families, WTF is with the comma and periods in their names?
The only thing they have left in this world besides memories is their good name, and you openly get it wrong.

Its about respect: respect for the dead, respect for yourself, and the respect for others who are read what you say.

33. As much as I dislike these people, and what they are doing...
The other side is always saying we are smug, self-righteous intellectuals. They rope in the sheeple by repeating that mem, over and over, so as to make them think WE THINK they are stupid. So, criticize them for their policies, not their spelling!

So what if they can't spell, or their penmanship is not Palmer-method -- They are simply and absolutely wrong ideologically, spiritually, and patriotically. They lie. They hate. THEY ARE WRONG. Period.

Please, no more remarks about how they spell. Write posts about how what they believe is against everything YOU believe, and then we'll be getting somewhere!

39. I don't think it takes being "intellectual" to note mistakes that basic.

And it's all of a piece, really, which is what I think others are saying here. Style *and* content. It's not just that they don't know; they don't want to know, and don't want to know that they don't know. Which is where blaming everybody else (i.e. us) comes in. Yeah, a lot of us could work on our smugness and self-righteousness, myself included. All the same, I'd rather be a smug intellectual than smugly ignorant.
