LCV Endorses Senator Maria Cantwell for Re-election

The LCV annouced today that are endorsing Washington Senator Maria Cantwell for re-election. Cantwell is their first endorsement for the 2006 election cycle.

Senator Cantwell is one of our nation’s strongest environmental leaders in Congress — one of only two Senators to earn a perfect score on LCV’s 2004 National Environmental Scorecard. She fights every day to protect the health, quality of life, and pocketbooks of Washington families.

The record is clear: Sen. Cantwell stands up to big corporate interests and works tirelessly to protect our conservation heritage for future generations.

In her first term, Senator Cantwell has proven that she’s on Washington’s side. She successfully stopped Enron from suing ratepayers for electricity the fallen corporation never delivered. She has been outspoken in making sure polluters — not taxpayers — pay for the cleanup of toxic waste sites, and not hide behind bankruptcy laws. She helped extract a pledge from the federal government to clean up nuclear waste at the Hanford Nuclear Reservation. She continues to fight for the creation of the Wild Sky Wilderness in the central Cascades and for the protection of our wild rivers and roadless areas. And she has led the effort to protect the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

On most major bills affecting human rights and the environemtn, she has sided with Bush against the people. She and Feinstein have a lot in common.

Cantwell is not as progressive as Patty Murray, but she is better than Slade Gorton or any other repub. I don't believe she is a dino like Ben Nelson.
