Bush appeals to public not to waver in Iraq: "I've made my decision"
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20050830/pl_nm/iraq_bush_dc

SAN DIEGO (Reuters) - President George W. Bush, facing waning support for his Iraq policy, on Tuesday appealed to Americans not to waver because of the rising death toll and said U.S. credibility was at stake. With nearly 1,900 U.S. troops killed in Iraq and anti-war protesters trailing him from his secluded Texas ranch to California, Bush has seen his job approval ratings plummet to the lowest levels of his presidency.

In a speech in which he sought to cast the conflict as the modern day equivalent of America's World War Two struggle against Japan, Bush said Americans "once again" had a stark choice to make.

"Now as then our enemies have made their fight a test of American credibility and resolve. Now as then they are trying to intimidate free people and break our will," Bush said.

"This is the choice we face: Do we return to the pre-September 11 mind-set of isolation and retreat? Or do we continue to take the fight to the enemy and support our allies in the broader Middle East?" Bush said. "I've made my decision. We will stay on the offensive. We will stand with the people of Iraq and we will prevail," Bush said.

suffering from his stupid-ass decisions.

3. can't we test our will and resolve by something else
like maybe a hockey game?

God what gibberish - This is the kind of thing Nixon said defending the war - if we back out now even worse things will happen. It's an odd defense really - it acknowledges that the current policy isn't working but we can't admit we were wrong.

7. I propose marrying off the Bush twins to mullahs in Iran and Syria
like the Habsburg Empire married off their female offspring to threatening rulers of other empires, to stave off attack and keep the empire strong.

If it was good enough for Maria Antoinette, why not the twins?

4. "Now as then they are trying to intimidate free people and break our will"
foolish terrorists.

Only our own government is supposed to intimidate us and break our will.

5. "Do we return to the pre-September 11 mind-set of isolation and retreat?"
Excuse me? The only isolation and retreat was the deliberate look-away policy of Bushco. What Bush did on August 6, 2001 sums up his administration's look-away policy of isolation and retreat very neatly.

And by the way, george - you recently stated that this God-forsaken, stupid-ass, reckless policy of yours in Iraq will continue as long as you are president.

Which means (as it MUST)

Visualize IMPEACHMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pass it on...

Edited on Tue Aug-30-05 03:18 PM by bee
yes George... but so is our integrity. And since you care so much about our reputation, we're sure you'll understand why we feel it necessary to end this bullshit war and impeach your lying ass. You know, for freedom.

edited to add:
does anyone else think it odd that he would say "I" have made "My" decision? Umm.. should there be some "we's" in there? Or is it just up to him now. Sounds like he basically saying ... hey, I do whateverthefuck I want... so there.

11. I thought it was odd...that's why I made sure to put it in the topic line.
That's really the pivotal reason I posted this...he's not saying anything new or noteworthy. What jumped out was the "I made my decision" remark...sounds like it came from a true monarch.

12. His framing is just so much shit and someone needs to speak to
it...pre-September 11 mind-set of isolation and retreat

pre-9/11 we were not isolationists and we didn't retreat, we tracked down any one responsible for terrorist acts and put them in prison...what does he do? Attacks whole countries that are not the main problem, sects are the problem, and it's a law enforcement issue, not a war issue...It's too bad he WANTED to be a "war president" just so he'd have a more prominant place in history books, because now he has given the term Paper Tiger, meaning...

13. WHAT GOBBLEDY GOOK
who is "THE ENEMY"? Prevail at WHAT? "Resolve" to do WHAT???

The problem all along has been that because they can't just come out and say "we are there to install military bases and pillage--er, I mean 'privatize' Iraqi assets" they have to come up with one flimsy excuse after another. And now about the only reason we're getting for being there is because we ARE THERE and to withdraw and NOT be there would be "failure!" AAARGGHHHH

Not that it ever really was. Once anti-war sentiment hits the tipping point he'll be declaring victory and cutting and running.

24. This guy just doesn't get it....
nor do I. How do Iraq and Japan equate? How did we come to choose to stand with the people of Iraq? A pre- Sepetember 11 mind set of isolation? Hello???? Remember the Shah of Iran? He was an American puppet. Noriega? Same thing. Saddam? Our boy until you guys got tired of him.
The level of bullshit, hypocrisy and lies is overwhelming. I can't understand how there are still people who think this guy is acting in their interests.
