Televangelist Jack Van Impe called Robertson "an Osami bin Laden"
Don't ya just love it when the poofy-haired leaders of the fun-D'uh-MENTAL-ists start eating their own? Pull up a chair ... make some popcorn ... and let the show begin!

******************************
From Media Matters for America:

Televangelist and self-proclaimed Biblical prophecy expert Jack Van Impe denounced Pat Robertson's call for the assassination of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, comparing Robertson to Osama bin Laden.

From the August 30 broadcast of Jack Van Impe Presents:

VAN IMPE: And right now, the National Association of Evangelicals informs us that this man has done damage, and it could actually take the lives of some of the missionaries in South America because the news media in South America is bombarding this thing across the airwaves around the clock. God forgive him.

<...>

Not only that, but Mr. Robertson, you are pro-life, and yet you wanted the members of the Supreme Court to die last year, and now the president of Venezuela. We believe this book: Thou shalt not kill; Exodus 20, verse 13. And my Bible says that this is wrong, and I want to challenge you right now to change your ways. Because we as Christians do not need an Osami Bin Laden leading us.

3. This is why I forsook
my general Christian bashing a while ago, because there are Christians who aren't total hypocrits (though they are a rare breed it seems at times).

16. Maybe it's because they are scared to denounce the SOBs.
While they should be encouraged to speak up against all the filthy criminals like that SOB Robertson (and Frist too, BTW). They should ask themselves first thing in the morning (every morning): "Who would Jesus torture, rape, kill, and/or maim?" and then, they'd know who to denounce until sunset!!

I got a call from Saudi today, it's all over the news there, too.

I was told we have worse extremists here than they do.:eyes:

And yet I'm sure Jack will say something in a few days to piss me off again.

9. Is this true? Are the evangelists who don't tow the hard right wing...
line of hate and death?

It's a good sign if so.

10. That's a pretty sane thing for a crazy guy to say
But it's like Buchannan saying something sane. You know that for the most part they're batshit crazy.

I remember Jack doing a special once that described AIDS as God's plague upon the gays.

He ... well, I can't say he quotes scripture because he sorta footnotes scripture as he talks. You'd have to record him, then pause and look up, pause and look up what he says to see if he's twisting it. He does it that fast. It always sounded to me like he was cherrypicking bits and pieces. But I never did record and pause him to be sure.

Even so, the dude has issues.

But at least he said something good here.

11. It's one of those rare cases in which even a broken clock is correct -
twice a day.

This guy does say some compelling things here. Because pat robertson IS a Domestic Terrorist.

13. Hehehehe
That is funny. This guy does make good points though. If you proclaim to be a Christian and claim to also be pro-life I doubt you'd get many brownie points with your fellow Christians. I wonder if this guy juding Robertson though is for war. Hm. But at least someone called him out on it!

15. Uh, I'm not enthralled by this guy....
He's a fundie crackpot who's part of the same dominionist thing Robertson lives off of, he's just on the opposite extreme side.

He believes anyone like Robertson should be denounced as an Osama Bin Laden. There's some real crazies going on in these religious front groups, and everywhere people are calling on killing abortion clinics.

I can't take it anymore, I tell you as a christian, I want the fundies to go form a new nation. Maybe in Iraq, and raise their future there.

17. Robertson's comment may have been good in a way
It seems to be the one statement that might marginalize himself from the rest of the evangelical community for good. It seems like many Christians of all sorts are trying to distance themselves from him.

While there are many, many more fundamentalist preachers, few are quite as hateful, and in my opinion DEMONIC as Pat Robertson. He's a psycopath and it's good to see other fundies condemning him - and stronger that too than the government itself, which is really shameful.

19. This is exactly what's needed! He needs to be called out by his own kind
I've never heard of Jack Van Impe before, but if he is a televangelist with a large audience, he might be able to sway large numbers of fundies, beyond his own following away from this sick, greedy deathcult pattern of thinking that Robertson promotes. At least Van Impe understands that the bible does not condone such actions.
