What will Bush's poll numbers look like next week?
Edited on Tue Aug-30-05 07:52 PM by Hissyspit
Seriously, I am disgusted, but not surprised by his behavior in the past few days, and I know what posters at DU think, but I haven't got a sense of what Americans in general are thinking of his actions, if they are even aware. Is there going to be a rallying-around-the-president effect? What do you think?

Rightwing control of polls is still too extreme.

I'd guess something like 33% would be reasonable. However he'd still be trending toward the depths of hell.

has stopped he free fall by the speeches he has made this week. I doubt that but probably 36% would support * if he molested a Boy Scout on prime time TV.

5. Americans have very little tolerance for discomfort ....
By next week those not living in the deep south will be quite pi$$ed off by $3.00+ a gallon gas, those in the deep south will be thinking about food, shelter, personal safety and other serious concerns ... what aide there is won't arrive fast enough.

I hope the louse ridden Chimp is somewhere around 20% approval (RW fundy worship will not end unless he has sex in the oval office with anyone other than Laura)

8. Oh, they'll go up.
They'll go up on account of his cutting his five-week vacation short by a whole 24 hours in order to play the guitar and play the concerned Preznit and holding out bundles of diapers .

In fact, this is such a forgiving nation that his approval ratings go up four points everytime he eats a pretzel without choking and passing out.

19. I agree, and I think people are going to start scratching their heads
about the National Guard being used for war when they are needed here at home. I think his domestic numbers are going to be as low as his war numbers, and, depending on what happens in the South, the people may just start to demand impeachment. Lord knows the Dimson should be impeached just for playing golf on the day NO was hit.

7. Hate to say this, but I'm betting they'll be up a little bit.
People will give him far more credit than he deserves because he actually left his throne on Olympus and stooped to visit the peons in Hurricane Alley. They'll think he's just marvelous, and his spinners and handlers will orchestrate it so it's a lot of pretty pictures.

I don't have the confidence in the sheeple that some here do. Some of them will fall for any shit from this schmuck, and have already done so repeatedly.

THAT'S WHY WE NEED TO RUN WITH THIS, WITH EVERYTHING WE'VE GOT:

Bush has slashed Clinton's Disaster Mitigation Program. (unbelievable)

10. They'll be up.
Honestly, I think he's about as low he's gonna get in the polls. Maybe it could dip into the low 30s, but I'm of the belief that about a third of America are Bush groupies. He could eat live babies on TV and that magical 33% of the country would stand by him.

They've got nowhere to go but up, and with Americans' tendency to do that "rally 'round the president" bullshit any time something catastrophic happens, I think he'll see a bump.

He doesn't deserve it, qiute the opposite, but don't be surprised. And they'll be back down again in three weeks when New Orleans is "old news." :eyes:

I think they'll go up. Once the reality of nationwide $3, and heading to $3.50 /gal gas starts to sink in, as the prices rise his popularity will fall. Even freeepers will start to question things at $3.50/gal.

22. I talked with a formally apolitical friend yesterday
someone I haven't seen in two years. Anyway, right off the bat he says "I HATE Bush! I can't stand looking at him or listening to him! All he does is LIE! And he's too much of a coward to talk to that woman in Crawford or go to New Orleans. He's ruining the country! If someone walks into my office and tells me they're a republican, I won't speak to them. They make me sick"! I was floored, especially considering that he never used to vote! (but he did last year-for Kerry).

26. I predict his numbers will stay the same
High 30s to low 40s. But if gas prices go up and stay there, it could fall further.

I don't believe his poll numbers will improve. People are sick of Bush and his BS. People think he is a liar.

So far, he hasn't demonstrated any kind of leadership on this Hurricane thing.

If people in LA, AL and/or MS think Bush has done a poor job responding. His numbers might fall further. Remember this is Bush country we are talking about. So it's all down side from here.

Remember that September 11 happened in NY. True-blue NYC. When they rallied to the Prez, other Dems did as well.

It really depends on what happens in those three states.

He'll remain in the mid 30s to low 40s (depending on the poll).

I don't see political speeches having too much of an affect at this point. What is he goin to do? Stand on top of the Super Dome saying "those that flooded the city will hear from us"?

Plus, unlike FL last year where his response was quick (to get some photo ops and aid to swing districts), this time the reaction has been slow.

38. Amen to THAT, my friend!
Impeachement would be too good for his worthless ass!

But, that won't happen, either. The House recommends articles of impeachment, and this administration's control of all three arms of government makes that a virtual impossibility.

I was really happy and surprised to hear (on Stephanie Miller's show) yesterday that Pat Buchanan has called for Bush's impeachment. Maybe if enough in Bush's Party just say the word... no, I can't allow myself that ray of hope. I'll only end up disappointed.

I'd suspect Bush and Rove are figuring out a way to cash in on this disaster. If he plays his cards right he can jump his numbers a bit but when the news comes out that he cut the funding for the levee's and hurricane preparedeness, they'll go right back down. As for the sheeple, they'll just bleat thier discontent.

41. I already said in a similar thread that he would get a big bounce......
....from the presstitutes if he could be seen as doing anything that could be remotely spun as "leadership" as far as the hurricane goes.

But that was before I read this link.....

http://www.tpmcafe.com/story/2005/8/30/212451/290

Pass it on to everyone you know. Red states, Blue states, foreigners even better - they might actually do something with it. Maybe The Guardian could find the original article referenced at that link?

Let's put it this way: Money which was supposed to go to those New Orleans levees (that no longer exist) was diverted to the Iraq war.

In anything remotely resembling a fair world, that would send the Idiot Son of an Asshole's numbers into the polling equivalent of the Marianas Trench.

I think the American public realizes that we have given him too many "do-overs" and we are growing more incredulous. He has been given the benefit of the doubt time and time again, and this time, I don't think it will fly. I mean, come on, what if this was a terrorist attack? Look at how Loooooggggg it has taken for any federal response! We have been given this drum beat of how bu$hie and his minions "keep us safe" and that the Dems would sink us into a never-ending bottomless pit of terror. OK, well, the bu$h junta can't even get it together to rescue the victims of a hurricane. How the hell are they going to "protect" us from terrorists who PLAN to do us harm. Nah, I don't think chimpy is gonna get a pass on this one.

I was so glad to finally hear that from her. She is so pissed at Bush and that should be a good indicator. I think it just got to the point that the shit had piled up so high that she couldn't ignore it anymore.

Don't get the wrong impression about my mom, she's no freeper. She's more of an independent who has become very cynical when it comes to politics.

I think that the tide is turning very quickly against this administration and it's going to be one hell of an ugly fall.
