water.

She said the looters taking teevees and stuff were bad ... but the ones taking food and water ..... 'well, that can be understood'.

on edit: she said this while talking to Foghorn Cosby on MSNBC

1. Good.
The food can't be sold, anyway. It's "damaged" and would have to be thrown out. The stores are insured and can write it off. In these circumstances, people have a perfect right to take what they need to survive.

3. At this point it shouldn't matter who looted what
The city is a waste land. If someone took food, clothing, even electronics, what's it matter now.

Thank you Sen Landrieau.

you would think that DUers cared more about electronics than human lives. Go back & count the number of threads on "teh looters !!111!one!!!!"

7. Well as I said in an earlier thread, we have quite a 'I walk on water'
crowd here lately. And of course it all comes from the voice of 'experience'. (That last remark was pure sarcasm.)

As Rita was going on and on about prosecution of the looters. Cosby's voice is so annoying.

Tucker Carlson's show better than Rita's. I never thought I'd say that. Jeez.

10. Another example of great minds thinking alike!
I've been saying all day that only the people who are taking things other than food and necessary supplies are the ones doing the looting.

12. The only problem with this...
is she will be labeled soft on crime by the repukians when she comes up for reelection. I hope I am wrong but the repukians will stoop as low as they can to win.

17. um, sore subject with me...
after Hurricane Andrew some of the people I worked with came in draped from head to toe with beautiful gold jewelry. I knew the ladies and some of their history...boyfriends who spent more time in jail than out. I didn't ask but I mentioned the jewelry saying I was surprised that they had never worn it before. Several people got a bit touchy that I would bring it up but honestly, they were so weighted down with gold that you couldn't help but notice.

It was obviously stolen, and I never ever trusted these people again. They gained a bunch of jewelry, but lost the trust and respect of their fellow employees forever. All of them eventually quit or moved on to other jobs.

20. It's all sinking fast....
if they can find food that is edible, by all means, someone eat it before it ruins and they starve. Save lives, not tvs - in my opinion. Everything there is going to be ruined - basic survival changes many rules.

I know some people who watched the Tom Hanks movie - he was stranded on the island, remember? People complained that he opened the FedEx packages --- he was there for years!! I think it was ok to open them after surviving a plane crash and being on a deserted island presumably for the rest of your life! Remember "Wilson"? That ball was the only thing that kept him almost-sane. Yes, I know - just a movie, but still.....

decided that what's really wrong with America is are media, whether it be tv, radio or the internet. Yahoo needs to apologize for this big time.

30. OK, at first I suspected this because "finding bread and soda
from a local..." seemed like an odd and tortured use of English. "at a local" would make more sense grammatically. Maybe a hoax...

But alas, NO! I Searched yahoo photos and this one is there as is! I cannot believe this was printed as is. Definitely wrong of the news service to phrase it this way. I saved the page in case they purge it today.

31. Let's drop the DLC shit for now, OK?
She's a Democrat and she and Blanco are having the worst days of their lives.

She was right about the looting, and let's just praise her for that. She's a STATEWIDE representative, and most of Louisiana is not liberal.

She's been great today - I really wish we could just take situations like this and look at PEOPLE responding to problems, not their silly political affiliations.

Landrieu wants the same thing we all want - to save lives and try to save New Orleans.

Edited on Wed Aug-31-05 04:14 AM by baron j
food--in order to send back unsold or unsellable items as "damaged"--on a daily basis. The more socially conscious ones give stuff to food relief organizations. And if someone takes a tv, I honestly don't care. It's good enough for me to know that he or she hasn't been drowned. There are no working outlets to plug it into, anyway. Most of the images on the news sites I've seen have been of stuff: buildings, streets, cars, etc., but few of people and animals. Forbid that someone gets a plasma tv out of this misery. I'm sure the owners of these yachts will have them replaced at our expense: http://www.wwltv.com/sharedcontent/breakingnews/slideshow/083005_dmnkatrina/15.html
