Gov. Blanco on Larry King...this is why women rock...
Edited on Tue Aug-30-05 09:00 PM by TomInTib
Larry asked her about the situation in NOLA, and a woman from Houston called who was worried about a relative in an attic, and Blanco asked for the address so that they could rescue him.

Taking care of business, Ms. Blanco. You are in the worst possible situation, and yet still take care of the details.

1. Contrast her with Haley Barbour
who seems to only care about the property damage

3. She also disparaged the airlines for getting out while
the getting was good. That's common sense, as much as she didn't like the decision. Maybe if more people had heeded that, more would be alive.

10. Umm - they left EMPTY! They could've done an airlift OUT of the CITY
for those that needed it.

They didn't.

11. Please prove it. If the powers that be suggested
an airlift from any airline, and if conditions were safe, they would be there in a heartbeat.
And that would be from ANY airline and crew and staff.
I would be happy to forward any info you have to the contrary.

5. Democrats in Louisiana have a winning formula now.
If we run a moderate white female from GOP territory in Louisiana, we win 99% of the time.

Our candidates get a home-turf voting boost in GOP territory, they have a turnout machine to hell and back in New Orleans, and the instant runoff system gives them an edge on the final Election Day. It also doesn't hurt to have a Cajun name; it's no coincidence that "Kathleen Babineaux Blanco" was how her name was listed on the ballot.

12. Blanco beat the Republicans at their own game
Bobby Jindal was almost assured to win the election. But some last minute attack ads that she ran left him crippled with no way to respond because it was too close to the election. When you consider how dirty the Republicans play (2002 Georgia Senate Race), what she did was minor. She squeaked by with heavy black and cajun turnout. Her approval ratings are in the high mid-high 50's and considering that she is handling this disaster well, they will probably go up. I'd say that she'll win re-election comfortably.

On the presidential level, the state is red because dems don't try there. Blanco is also socially conservative and that helped her win votes that Kerry couldn't.
