With real help. National Guard Troops. Aid. And all of it not just for some pathetic fund-raising photo op, like sorry-ass Bush is planning now -- for Friday!

2. The last thing NO needs right now
is more politicians looking for Photo Ops.

What they NEED is help-- the REAL kind. Not more promises of aid, more news conferences, more hand-wringing, more crocodile tears from elected officials.

They need BOOTS on the ground with buckets and pumps getting that fucking water out of there-- NOT some politician with an agenda.

The best thing Dubya could do is stay the hell away, and dispatch as many spare Guards/Reservists and emergency personnel as he possibly could.

22. Abso-damn-lutely Spot on!!!!!
There are 1,000s of people stuck in attics in stifling heat who have not eaten in three days. We have two or three days max to do S&R before this becomes a recovery operation.

Bush is absolutely correct to stay away while rescue operation ar ongoing.

This is not the time to be scoring political points. Nor is it an opportunity to Bash Dumbya,

We need to get our priorities straight. If he wants to Address the nation fine. But he needs to stay out of the way until it is apparent no one else can be saved!!!!

3. Not so sure about that.....
Whenever we have had disasters, President Clinton also made sure to say that he never wanted to get in the way of the work of rescuers and relief efforts. That was a major concern for him.

He even mentioned that was a concern to him, when it was first mentioned that he and George H.W. Bush would be visiting some of the areas hardest hit by the tsunami. When they were on Larry King one time, and Larry had asked them when they would start their tour, Clinton said at the time he wasn't sure, but it would be in enough time so that they did not detract or take away from relief efforts.

23. It would be seen as grandstanding!!
If Rove however wants to show his brilliance. Bush taps Clinton to be recovery Czar.

We would all aplaud and moderates would thin well maybe Bush is not such a bad egg after all.

It won't happen...but it would be so brilliant.

6. If * showed up everyone would be screaming about his photo-ops.
If he doesn't show up everyone screams about his insensitivity. When he came to Florida last year for the hurricanes, it was sickening. Stay away. This is about the people who have lost a lot to everything. Let them stay in the spotlight. They don't need fake compassion from *.

Oh wait, last year was an election year. He's in no rush.

9. As opposed to the freaks
who were talking about how the US now has to give aid to those living in "paradise". I don't know about you, but my idea of paradise doesn't have a hurricane running through it every year or two.

10. I can't believe Bush has been so quiet in the midst of this disaster.
Edited on Tue Aug-30-05 11:26 PM by Zen Democrat
We've lost a major American city. Is he reading a children's book again? He should have gone on TV from the White House to detail all of the emergency measures the federal government will take. Give hope to people. People need to know that help is on the way.

What's happening now is shock and confusion. If Bill Clinton were president today, he'd be commandeering all the power of the government to save lives in New Orleans tonight.

Bush must be out of it to so completely detach from this.

11. Gore and/or Kerry would be physically assissting the victims.
As much as SS would let them.

I have not been more angry at Bush at anytime since 1999 than I am right now. Mr. President? Bite my ass.

12. What's to stop either of the Clintons, Gore or Kerry from going there?
Edited on Tue Aug-30-05 11:48 PM by Tinoire
Yeah Bush is a wuss, a wimp, a weasel, a liar, a dirty cheat and a low-down thief but none of that stops either of the Clintons, Gore or Kerry from going to New Orleans and showing support.

None of that stopped them from going to meet with Cindy Sheehan either.

Hatred of one person should not lead to blind hero worship.

If they go, I'll respect them for it but I'm not holding my breath.

Maybe Clinton will do another duet tour with Poppy Bush

I'm very, very bitter towards our dem "leadership"; wet noodles most of them.

anyone one of those three would have CANCELLED THEIR GODDAMN VACATION IMMEDIATELY - if not BEFORE the thing struck! The magnitude of this was well know atleast a day before. I know they may not have been able to visit immediately simply because they wouldn't want to get in the way, but they would have done their best to get enough NG troops in the region to help assess the situation.

BTW, was that cake pic with McCain after the hurricane hit?

If so, McCain is a worthless piece of shit as well.

Clinton might consider going to New Orleans. I'm guessing he's pretty popular in the city.

21. New Orleans needs rescue workers--not politicians with security details.
Bush needs to be in Washington coordinating rescue operations and explaining relief plans to the public until the situation is stabilized enough for a presidential survey of the disaester area.

He should not be playing golf, cavorting with cute little sailor boys, hobnobbing with fatcats and plucking away on a custom presidential guitar while New Orleans drowns and thousands of people in the Gulf Coast region remain homeless.

25. He actually cut the vacation short
but that's not saying much. Everything's a fund-raiser for him.

I wish I had a job that I could be on vacation for almost half of the year.
