Can You Believe I Saw $3.30 A Gallon Yesterday (NOT in California)
On Long Island!!!

The prices were:

$3.20 for regular
$3.26 for super
$3.30 for premium

The place near me went up 20 cents in a day. Gas prices are all over the map. I must have passed 10 gas stations coming home from school yesterday and they ranged from $2.68 to $2.96 and then last night my girlfriend and I were driving back from dinner and we saw this Exxon station that had $3.20 for regular and I almost ran my car off the road.

This has to be price gouging, doesn't it? I mean, gas can't just be 25 cents more at one place than it is anywhere else, right?

2. 2 questions
where on long island did you see that price and was it for a self serve station or full serve (full serve generally being about 20-25 cents per gallon higher)

and lets face it it is all price gouging since the gas we are using now was refined weeks if not months ago and was bought at a cheaper price.

4. exactly right.....
I could understand if there truly is a major shutdown in the Gulf that prices would go up. But WTF--it doesn't happen the NEXT GD DAY!!

People all over the US are being raped and pillaged by the Oil companies, distributors and even the GD retail stores IMO. The gasoline in those ground tanks at the retailer didn't suddenly get recalled to a higher price, that fuel was bought and paid for DAYS or even WEEKS ago.

So whats Bush doing? NOTHING,just like all the Oil industry told him to do...

7. Whats to stop??
I keep hearing people on our local news say the same thing. Face it,if you have a GD job you have to drive to work, you have to drive home. Hell if gas was $4.00 per gallon you'd STILL see the same amount of traffic in the morning. I laugh when those idiots EXPECT to see mostly empty streets when prices go up.

There might be a few that can switch to a bike or motorcycle or mass transit, but the rest are stuck getting to work the same old way. I really, really doubt at these prices that people are still taking the old "sunday drive".

9. If one has a low paying job ...
...drive 10 or more miles to work, drive an older (less fuel efficient vehicle), pay a babysitter ...

You may not be able to afford to go to work. This is a Realistic scenario in Metro Detroit; there is (for all intents and purposes) NO mass transit, there is little or no employment opportunities in the inner city (there are some jobs out in the suburbs, mostly low paying service)...

The working class will be devastated by these increases, the middle wage earners will be hard hit (losing discretionary money) ... the affluent will fill the tank of their Hummer or Navigator.
(* this relates to fuel costs ... not even considering how much more goods will cost)

12. I definitely agree about driving to jobs; but it would be heartening if...
I didn't see polls like the one a couple of days ago which showed that 80% of Americans aren't going to let high gas prices stop them from driving and traveling their little ole buns off this L. Day weekend. I'd adore a nice long drive in the country right now, the kind we used to take decades ago to relax. But there's no more driving for fun at my house anymore, we use our vehicles strictly for necessary trips. Would be nice if that 80% would reconsider those unnecessary, luxury trips.

16. Well, you might ask where Bush is on this.
He claimed to be able to hold prices down because he had an 'in' with OPEC.

17. That's not what the chimp bastard said yesterday
He said "Sure I'd like to be able to lower gas prices, but that's not how markets work."

Fuck this "market" bullshit. Nationalize the goddamned oil industry. There's no reason a handful of companies run by PROVEN thieves should have this much control over the entire economy.

19. I filled up at $2.85 in Ferndale, MI yesterday
It was the best price I could find. Many at freeway interchanges and major intersections were charging $2.99, so I assume that will be the rate for Labor Day weekend.
