1. I was wondering the same thing... where is "Simón Bolívar"?
http://www.eluniversal.com/2005/08/31/en_pol_art_31A606739.shtml
"The government and the people of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela want to express to US authorities and people their deep consternation for the extent and consequences of the tragedy resulting from hurricane Katrina, that has seriously affected large areas south the states of Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi, with a regrettable death toll and incalculable material damages," the communiqué added.

The Foreign Ministry reiterated "President Hugo Chávez' offer to ship fuel and humanitarian aid to US, to help alleviate the effects of this catastrophe, at a time when crisis is worsening because of damages caused to oil facilities at the Gulf of Mexico and in south US."

"The Venezuelan government, as well as Venezuelan citizens, have attentively monitored these events, and make the Humanitarian Taskforce "Simón Bolívar" -an internationally renowned elite corps with a vast experience in disaster management- available to the US people. They are ready to fly to disaster areas and contribute to rescue efforts, in the event that US authorities require so."

7. Hush now. You're wrecking a right wing talking point.
You can't let it get out that other nations have actually offered to help. What are you thinking?

Why do you hate Amurka?

8. Funny you should mention right wing talking points.
I just got back from an encounter with a Bush voter. She started moaning about the U.S. coming to everyone else's aid and no one offering any to us. Beautiful thing to behold...her face when I told her the facts....and two other people immediately jumped in and backed me up.

9. I heard the same drivel on the radio this morning.
The radio hostess stating as fact what she wanted to believe. And what wasn't true.
