Sen. Susan Collins
Undoubtedly, the rw will lean on this woman like there is no tomorrow. I think she is very tough and can take it. But, this is my question: Will she finally have enough of these people? Will she walk away from them before her soul withers away? I believe she is a decent person with a lot of integrity. What the hell is she doing in the republican party?

1. I often wondered that about her.
But you know what they say about New England Republicans. They're more Democratic than Southern Democrats.

2. Could say the same about a number of republicans
Snowe, Chaffee, Specter, Chris Shays? You wonder how they reconcile their beliefs with the party they belong to!

4. On the basis of what evidence...
...do you believe 'she is a decent person with a lot of integrity.'

Because I don't see it.

A handful of carefully calculated triangulation votes every six years (ANWAR, Family Leave, etc.) and the other 360 days a year, a reliable spear-carrier for die Partei.

Also one of the ten dumbest Senators presently serving -- pig-ignorant and carried by her staff. (One of my ex-students and debaters worked in her constituency operations back in ME and was appalled -- not too appalled to cash his paycheck, but appalled -- at how little the woman knows.)

If you vote at the beginning of the Congressional session for Bill Frist instead of Harry Reid, I don't care if you kiss lepers and walk on water.

She'll fold like a 9-dollar Rite-Aid lawn chair.

5. she's an extremist.
Anyone who supports the likes of Frist or Lott for Majority Leader to set the agenda is an extremist in my book. And that's the kind of campaign we need to run against her, and all of the other northeastern Republicans. They use regional bigotry against us ("northeastern elite"), and I say it's time to use the same against them.

A trailer park, rebel flags, big fat toothless lady in a moo-moo/curlers, car parts scattered around the yard.. it's time. Smear 'em with Lott and Frist.

6. I don't agree they are extremist...
Edited on Tue Sep-06-05 11:08 PM by SaveElmer
It is very hard to shake years of party loyalty...but

I agree that is the strategy to defeat them. The fact they vote for Frist and Lott year after year is detrimantal to the well-being of their constituents, and they need to be tarred with that association!!!

That strategy worked on Connie Morella...the issue was Newt Gingrich and Tom Delay in that race...and Van Hollen knocked her off!!!

11. Please do not bash those who live in trailer parks.
Not all of us are big, fat, toothless ladies in moo-moos/curlers. Nor do we have car parts scattered around the yard. The park I live in has very strict rules and big, fat, toothless ladies are not allowed to live here.

12. I know that.
I have many relatives who live in them, and I have lived in one as well. The overall image, however, can be an effective smear, just as the image of lisping volvo-driving etc etc northeasterners can be effective.

8. Not really ever impressed with her.
She starts out sounding like she is really going to give it to Bush, and then turns around and supports him.
