I told my Republican Mother last night...
if you have no shame for a Country that would let this tragedy happen, then it is indeed, Shame on you. I had to ask her, "what will it take?" to get you to disavow this Criminal in Office...she had, she has, she never will have, an answer. She is so blinded by her allegiance to this despot, this party of hers, that she will NEVER disavow him or them. So be it. I informed her that until she does, our relationship will never be right. She chooses to Stand with the Criminals, I choose to stand with those who want their country back. I told her that she and all of the people who voted for Bu$hco have Blood on their Hands. She also told me to "love it or leave it", I told her... I don't have to, this is my Country and I want it back. Sorry, but my line is drawn, there will be no quarter given to those who choose to Destroy my Children's Country, my Children's Future. There will be no forgiveness. I am for accountability, call it what you will, that is what separates the Men from the Boys.

Except when I start talking about it she just says, "Let's not talk about politics". It drives me up the freaking wall.

15. God, that's my mother. She starts talking about politics, usually
bringing up Clinton's sex life as she is obsessed with it as they all are, and then the first thing I say about Bush, she says "I don't really know anything about politics so let's change the subject". Apparently she knows a lot about sex, but not politics. Drives me crazy too so I avoid them. I'm sorry too, but I've had enough of these people, even my own mother.

But I completely see your point, and I support you in your decision to tell her that your relationship won't be right until she disavows these devils.

5. amazing!
to have a 'bushevik' as close to you as a mother....jeanne garafalo's dad is also hardcore republican, which drives jeanne crazy(she simply finds her dad 'pig headed' as the ww2 generation like to call it) Still, surely the reason for your mom's beliefs cannot be that hard to fathom, if you talk around the 'president bush means well' etc....have you asked her if she realizes the $$$ that has been invested by the corporations etc in getting people to believe certain things, through their control of the newsmedia and shutting down anti bush media? does she realize she's supporting goliath over david?

6. It is an emotional clinging to Bush and what she feels he represents...
It is very elemental and is very difficult, if not impossible, to overcome. I came to that conclusion during the last campaign. It is almost impossible to talk to people who have this emotional connection to the Republic Party. I suppose that many of us Democrats have the same emotional tie to our party. I just wish that we could find a magic bullet that would cure the Republican disease.

would be very painfull and disorienting. So they avoid it even as the
evidence mounts that they have hitched their wagon to the Titantic.

11. that is a good point...
the thing is, I don't need a bible to tell me the difference between right and wrong. I would hope that it is pretty obvious throughout our history which party stands on which side for the most part. It is just a no brainer...again, "what will it take?" BTW, when Kent State happened back when I was a Tenth Grader, her reaction of glee, that it was about time they killed some of the dirty protesters forever changed my outlook on life...it basically ruined my trust, my faith in my country. I didn't need anyone to tell me that Vietnam was wrong, that Nixon was wrong, that Governor Rhodes was wrong, that my Mother was wrong.......I warned her that I will be the one on the street you will be rooting for to be killed. What is it with Death and the Republican Party...do you have to worship it?

31. I, too, wish we could find that magic bullet.
Meantime, we have to work with what we HAVE found.

You have to understand two things at work here:

1) You think bush finds it impossible to admit he made a mistake? Extrapolate that out over the electorate, and all those die-hards who will go down with the ship rather than admit they were wrong, or made a mistake, or exercised bad judgment. It's not about saving the country. It's about saving face. If you're utterly resolute about "staying the course" and standing by your president, to do otherwise means not merely that you recognize he was wrong. It means you also recognize that YOU, TOO, were wrong. And a lot of people just don't have that in them. Too much to ask of them.

2) Denial. Denial. Denial. Not just a river in Egypt, as they say. If you just keep on denying anything's amiss, perhaps no one else will notice, or maybe - like ignoring an unwanted pregnancy - well, doggies, it just might go away! Happy-happy-joy-joy!

Dammit, I know it. It's daunting to face an uphill battle this steep. This psychology stuff really does work against us, and the bad guys know it. That's why they've manipulated it up the ying-yang.

But what's our alternative? To throw up our hands, give up and just stop fighting - relax and enjoy it like some of these folks would tell a rape victim? Is THAT what we should do?

8. I'm sorry that it had to come to this.
I can only hope that something, someday, somehow will cause her to question her unswerving loyalty to something so evil. Maybe one of her peers can reach her where her child can't. Don't burn all your bridges, we each only come with one mother.

19. sorry, wrong
I have had several friends "divorce" their families. If your parent is wrong, they are Wrong. Being your parent does not change that. Sometimes a person grows beyond their narrow-minded families. We create our own new families from friends.

21. Sorry, I disagree
and I just have to say this...a parent raises a child...that child does NOT have to be the mirror image of their parent, it is no longer adult to child, it is adult to adult...parents teach a child to know right from wrong, good from evil, so that when they get to adulthood, they make the right choices, and when a child grows up into an adult..we often see, that our parents weren't always right, and it's quite the eye opener...apparently his mother did a good job raising him...BUT...now that she did such a good job..HE has his own mind, and HE sees clearly, what she cannot, or will not...whichever the case might be...Anyone who cannot see what happened this past week in NOLA for what it is, and will continue to be, is blind...and it also means that they cannot accept that they could be wrong, because they support *, and he is right...well, isn't that, I never make a mistake, and I can't admit I'm wrong, what we bitch about constantly?...isn't that exactly the mindset, that we fight day after day after day? Isn't that what frustrates all of us so much?
If these people are so blind they cannot see, how are we to ever change it?
I don't believe I read that he told her he didn't love her??? Only that if she couldn't open her eyes, their relationship would be strained...that's pretty damned honest in my eyes..Just because anyone is a parent, doesn't make them 100% right at all times..unless they are the type of parent who refuses to believe their child is now grown up, and sees things differently..
Hopefully they can continue to discuss the issues, and come to a meeting of the minds...We NEED to open these people's eyes...no matter how it's accomplished...I simply won't believe that either of them will cease to love the other, because of that friggin maroon in the wh..but it's probably nerve wracking for both of them...

25. thank you for the words.......
I indeed told her I loved her, but my desire to associate with her and others in the family that won't budge is not going to be high on my list. Right from Wrong does not take a break when it comes to family. If your child is breaking the law, or supporting evil do you look the other way?

What's the first thing you are told to do? AVOID...those things that tempt you....

I just want to reach out and slap people who repeat the mantra..."love it or leave it"...most of them haven't taken the time to understand what they are implicating, when they repeat it...

What's happened in NOLA since Katrina, was at the very least, wrong AND criminal..Mom gets NO free pass on this one...

So I am a jerk huh... well yes, she does think that. Let me ask you something: if your darling child was into Crime, or Drugs, or something you adamantly disagreed with would you look the other way? To you, this may just be a game...but to me this is the most serious thing in my life. BTW, is there anything in life worth taking a stand over, or does that Family FRee PAss thing always override right and wrong?

I think the disgrace that is New Orleans is a pretty good one to draw

Our fellow Americans suffered senselessly as this nation watched, seemingly helpless and George Bush is ultimately responsible that. One cannot excuse the actions and decisions he made.

39. I suspect he will figure a way to remove the left-handed scissors
...from all the public classrooms...due to lack of need. These people have attacked the 'lefties' before.

It's the spring of 1692 in Salem, Massachusetts. You've just been accused by "an afflicted girl" of being a witch. The reason for the accusation against you might have been any from a long list of possibilities. Perhaps you're reclusive, talk to yourself, or exhibit some other form of eccentric behavior. Perhaps you were involved in a previous dispute with the family of the afflicted girl. Perhaps you don't go to church, or go to the wrong church, or sided with the wrong faction in recent congregational strife within the Salem Village Church. Perhaps you speak French or are suspected with having aided the Wabanakis in the recent Indian wars. Or perhaps you expressed support for a recently accused witch or--worse yet--accused the accusers of lying. Whatever the reason, you're in big trouble now. What do you do? (Pick an option below).

22. when Bush said he was a uniter, not a divider,
I thought "the h3ll with that, I don't want to be united with your type," so at first I was happy to be one of the dissidents and the un-united.

I didn't think about the possibility that families could be divided over these issues--even in the days of Clinton and Monica it didn't seem as though friendships or any other important relationships could be dissolved over a disagreement about politics.

Then along came Junior, and so many things that I would never have dreamed were possible have come true.

and other BS homilies.

i have given up trying to convince my parents, with logic or ultimatums. it will only result in alienation & estrangement. they took exception to my impassioned response to one of my dad's third-grade GOP simplistic chain emails (i wrote the F word several times cuz that's how i feel & talk anyway). i can't remember, but i think "hitlery" and the clenis made an appearance. i didn't speak to them for 2 months around the election.

its pointless. their entire concept of meaning & purpose in life would be shattered if they lost faith in the GOP, so they won't.

their ultimate defense: theyre all crooks.

What the fuck does "love it or leave it" even mean? I can't believe a mother would say that to their own daughter. God, it's the same fuckin mantra they've used for so long. I haven't seen my Republican family since before President Gore had the election stolen from him 2000. I speak to my mother occasionally on the phone, but I usually end up yelling at her for her callous indifference toward the poor, minorities, and gays. Oh, yeah, and her Catholicism. All rolled into a nasty, bigoted, judgmental human being with her lips firmly attached to Bush's ass.

I must have been adopted.
