Can we turn these next few years into the late 1960s? |
|
Think back to the late 60s...the counter-culture movement, the anti-war activism, unnecessary war, activism abound....can it happen again? With Bushville/Camp Katrina going on, the demonstration against Arctic drilling, the mass protest later this month...can we see another cultural revolution? Where we once had the civil rights and women's rights movement, we now have to fight for GLBT rights, and we're still fighting for equal rights for women and other minorities. Even moreso, we have to fight for people who aren't rich. The way we treat our impoverished, and even people who are above poverty, but aren't targeted for tax cuts is quite sickening. I think that Hurricane Katrina is going to be the event that launched a new movement. I sure hope it is, at least.

I do believe there's a "1968" ahead. In a way, nothing else but that sort of quasi-anarchy could help us.

Do you think we could bring back sit-ins and stuff? I mean, look at the difference they made! Social, grassroots protest is where it's at! I remember people used to chain themselves to poles and the shut doors of college presidents. We could do that, too!
