Lurking freepers, dems, libertarians, Americans of all stripes...
I don't hold out a lot of hope after witnessing what has happened in our country over the last few years, and especially the last few days. But maybe this is the defining moment. I am not talking about everyone waking up to say "Hey, George Bush really is a fuck-up!" I'm talking about people finally getting to see what mass pain and suffering looks like.

As activists, we must do more to equate the damage/destruction in New Orleans to that other man-made (Bush being the "man" in both cases) damage in Fallujah and broader Iraq, to help Bush Americans understand the suffering we are inflicting on largely innocent people.

There are so many similarities in the arguments.

Saddam was a bad man/Nagil was a bad mayor.

So what, innocent citizens deserved to die because of it?

No one could have known!

Except everyone but Bush, apparently.

It goes on and on. Right up to the ultimately similarity, that of outright suffering. Pain and death and horror needlessly, cavalierly inflicted on a population of innocents by an indifferent leader.

Damn. I'm sick to my stomach again. Dear god, I hope America really, really is waking up finally. But I still get that awful feeling of sliding backwards. My guess is, instead of dealing with the current problems in NO, the "current problem" Bush's staff is working on is merely saving his image, and finding a plausible way to rig the 2006 election for republicans.

That disaster scenerio is one I am sure BushCo will be very, very well prepared for.

Especially if you ARE black and voted for Bush because you don't like the idea of two guys getting married. You were had. Those two guys got married anyway, with or without your blessing, and this is what your president did for YOU.

2. Mayor Ray Nagin must destroy and account for all WMDs. He has a deadline
to comply and so far he has not complied. His time is up. The streets of his city are full of chemical toxins and biological pathogens, and for all we know, reconstituted radiological contaminants as well. He cavorts with terrorists. We have called on him to disarm his city of these Weapons of Mass Destruction and since he has refused to even allow inspectors in, we will now disarm him ourselves.
We welcome Governor Blanco's participation and input, but make no mistake, we will disarm the rogue state of New Orleans with or without her help. It is for her to decide whether to uphold her own resolutions or to become an irrelevant footnote in the history we shall now write.
May God bless America!
