Poll question: Do you agree with forced evacuations?
Do you agree with forcing people out of their homes if they refuse to leave?

1. Neither. Yes or no doesn't cut it.
I think Nagin and others could quash this controversy if they exempted particular parishes from the evac order (those where power is back and things were never flooded and there is no drastic impending hazard.) The only good reason to evac those areas is to cut down on the need for fire/police service there.

2. Opt-out
I think a person who makes a private decision
to defy the government's order
should relinquish the right to make later claims
against the government.

9. for every time I hear "I lived through Camille" and then they stayed
when they had the means to leave, I wish I had a dollar. And I wish they had to reimburse the government for their rescue.

4. On CNN last night:
Edited on Sat Sep-10-05 12:57 PM by PublicWrath
Many neighborhoods without any damage at all are being pressured to evacuate. The residents interviewed say that they are fully provisioned and want to wait it out because they believe their houses will be demolished or looted (perhaps even by police) if they leave.

Authorities have been telling residents who refuse to evacuate that they must be measured for body bags. Resident chuckled and said they know body bags only come in one size.

5. If no then people should not expect emergency services when they get into
trouble. It is not fair to the emergency workers to force them to go back and risk their lives when people were clearly warned to get out because of the danger. This has nothing to do with politics and everything to do with the safety of those putting their lives on the line to help people.

6. Exactly
Moreover, letting a small amount of people stay actually INCREASES the risks for many types of problems. I think looking at this in a COLLECTIVE way is very progressive.

7. I believe in discovering why they don't want to leave and addressing those
concerns.

8. yeah, for the simple reason that rescuers are endangered
trying to save the lives of people. Helicopter rescue is dangerous and rescue in general is dangerous.
