John Kerry: Administration Must Investigate Gas Price Gouging
John Kerry: Administration Must Investigate Gas Price Gouging
September 14th, 2005

I just reported that price gouging is in the news today and that Senators Feinstein and Cantwell have sponsored a bill to prevent gasoline price gouging.

John Kerry has also weighed in on price gouging, here is his statement:

“This Administration has done nothing while every American pays skyrocketing gas prices, and farmers and truckers pay through the nose while oil companies profits’ soar. It’s time for the federal government to take charge and investigate why prices have increased so dramatically while oil companies enjoy windfall profits. Someone in Washington needs to remember the leadership of Harry Truman when he exposed war profiteering and insisted on accountability for those who turned patriotism on its head in times of crisis. What’s happening today also needs to be understood, explained, and if needed, laid bare for all of America to see.

2. Kerry's point about Harry Truman and war profiteering aimed at Cheney
I bet it is. And I sure hope he gets that ball rolling. He had mentioned it many times in speeches in 2004...

Thanks for the post, KG.

3 cheers for Feinstein and Cantwelll, but blog.thedemocraticdaily.com should be more careful in its headline writing.

The CONGRESS has oversight responsibility for the Executive, the Executive does not oversee itself.

"The Bush Administration refuses to police itself in the midst of criminal and ethical misconduct and it is time for Congress to exercise its duty to oversee the Executive Branch...." - Rep. John Conyers, September 13, 2005.

4. I just filled up today -- OUCH and I got a "good" price.
I cursed every American who voted for a couple of oil men to run the country.

10. i just have to weigh in here ...
i don't care if you criticize Kerry ... i don't care if you have no respect at all for Kerry ...

the problem with your post is that you made Kerry the issue and NOT the ideas he communicated to Americans ... you either agree with the ideas or you don't; Kerry is NOT the issue ...

frankly, i applaud Kerry's mention of windfall profits ... the corruption by Big Oil of our government needs to be aired as often as possible ... each little messenger, whether we like the messenger or we don't, makes a contribution when they speak the truth ... things are not going to change anytime soon, but to cynically dismiss a message because you don't like the messenger is utterly foolish ...

again, if you think Kerry is just after some press, fine ... i might agree or disagree with you ... but to not even comment on the message itself is truly void of reasoning ...

you, just like those who blindly support Kerry or other candidates, and some do, are putting personalities ahead of issues ... we just can't afford that anymore ...
