Does anyone else find it odd... |
|
that after the fiasco where Bush and co. fell asleep at the watch during 9-11, and our country was attacked, somehow it was his 'finest hour'... and yet when a natural disaster strikes, and his biggest mistake was simply appointing the wrong guy to handle such disasters, he falls flat on his face. Anybody else think that this is a bit backwards?

1. NOPE and here is why..... |
|
After 911 Bush was able to rally support because he had the nation believing he was going to "protect us" and we we're gonna "get the terrorist"....all while the truth remained hidden until sometime later. With Katrina....Oh . Nowhere to run to baby,Nowhere to hide. The nation saw him for the racist bastard he is.

9-11 was an attack by "foreign" powers and at the time it was generally believed bush* had no idea it would happen -- (the "Osama determined to attack" briefing wasn't known by the public at the time) and a "response" would have been expected
with Katrina there were warnings, not only about the intensity of the storm but also about the levees breaking. Plus Katrina is an act of nature - although some believe bush* has already declared war on the environment - he can't come out and add mother nature to the axis of evil. What was expected was a quick and efficient response to the devestation. What we got was spin, blather, two-stepping, and statements of ignorance.

The US should invade an oil-producing country.

6. Don't Underestimate Anger |
|
Don't underestimate the importance of anger. After 9-11 we could be angry at al Queda, the perpetrators. As that anger faded, and the truth started emerging, things changed, but most people still haven't totally forgotten how he was those first few weeks. But who gets our anger from Katrina? That is why so many are playing the "blame game" - it is not just manipulating it for poliitcal advantage.
No one wants to believe members of their own party are responsible, so they discount any shortcomings of those officials and shift as much of the blame as possible to others. Some people blame the victims. These are the people who said things like: Why did you live in a flood zone? Why didn't you evacuate, etc.
There is no common enemy to rally against, so we are turning on each other, which is really ourselves.

um . . . not quite . . . appointing Brown (and, for that matter, Chertoff) were certainly dramatic mistakes (or worse), of equal impact was Bush's corrupt indifference to the plight of Katrina's victims for several days before AND after the hurricane struck . . . while people were dying, Americans watched their alleged president gallivanting around the country -- giving meaningless speeches, eating cake, and strumming guitars . . . not exactly demonstrating "compassionate conservatism" . . .

I think him showing up there to 'help' (i.e., do photo ops) probably did more damage than him staying away. Him staying away just made HIM look bad, it didn't hurt the situation there much.
