and it makes no sense. He insists the cuts have to stay so the rich people will invest in the Gulf States and create all those jobs. He has an out. He could say, well we'll do a phase down to 50% of the originally planned cuts. But the dude doesn't know the word compromise.

there will be even more taxcuts for the wealthy... it's only fair Bush Compares Responses to Hurricane, Terrorism ---last paragraph--- "Somebody said the other day, well, that's a tax break," Mr. Bush said. "That region is going to have zero income anyway. There's nothing there, in many parts of it. It makes sense to prove economic incentives for jobs to exist."

He has turned NOLA into a right wing neocon zone...tax breaks for big businesses, no-bid contracts for Halliburton, elimination of minimum wages, school vouchers, etc. You can be sure that he will try to do the same in TX

8. He'll probably cut more taxes |

After all, he is a firm believer in trickle down economics, despite the deficit.

But somehow I think that Bush is going to put his life at risk to prevent congress from raising taxes.

15. Ya know...I think if we push NOW, we might make it happen |
|
Katrina was one thing, now we have Rita bearing down on Texas like you said. Not only will we need to rescind the Highway Bill (223 million for that frigging bridge in Alaska alone), and massive pork for other things like a teacup museum....we must get rid of those damned tax breaks for the uber-wealthy. The middle and lower class are in severe crisis which will only get worse with the prices of gas for our vehicles, the prices to heat our homes, and the escalation of food prices to come due to the cost to transport the goods. We have some deep doo-doo coming here, and it ain't gonna be pretty. The division in our country between the haves and have-nots is going to get ugly. So much for being a uniter, huh.
When oh when will they realize we can't purchase goods and services if we have NO MONEY?
I am deeply concerned for the elderly in this country. It sounds like this administration wants to discard them like yesterday's trash.
The treatment of our most impoverished citizens is something to be ashamed of....and most of them are African Americans.
Did anyone see the song played on CNN by the Goo Goo Dolls to scenes of the aftermath of Katrina? I openly wept.

18. More likely it will mean a "cut" in Soc. Sec./Medicare benefits... |
|
particularly since Condi Rice is on the cover of AARP Magazine this month?!! A group that is one of the most powerful allegedly lobbying groups to preserve Soc. Sec. and Medicare...features a smirkingly large cover photo of Condi right now?
If not the Hurricanes, then at least the Space Program is bound to result in "cuts"/changes to Soc. Sec./Medicare...which Shrub couldn't push through without such excuses.
And after all, sometimes 'Americans are called on to make sacrifices'...and those 'sacrifices' are most easily hoisted on the backs of the weakest...without corporate lobbyists on their side.
