Gore convinces Roger Ailes that Global Warming is real

RFK Jr. spreads green message

(snip)

Kennedy related how he persuaded conservative Fox News to broadcast a one-hour report on global warming by appealing directly to network executive Roger Ailes.

"We dragged him to a lecture by Al Gore, kicking and screaming," he said, but Ailes came away convinced the threat is real. Recent weather trends make the case, Kennedy suggested.

2. RFK, Jr. very convincing and relentless, Gore very
knowledgeable and convincing.

Way to go!

I once heard RFK, Jr. say how he would talk to a group of people about environmental problems. They'd start out skeptical, but end up asking many questions with great interest.

:)

5. "The War Against Gore" is a term Bob Somerby coined about the media's
coverage of Al Gore from 1998 through the present. It specifically refers to the media ignoring Gore's record and statements in favor of smearing Gore as a "serial exaggerator" (based on true statements Gore has made which were called "lies", or misquotes the media made which were called "lies"), ascribing extremely negative motives to all of his actions without any supporting evidence, the ridiculing of his physical appearance (his clothes, his hair, his beard), and ridiculing his sex life.

Similarly, the phrase "the Hunting Of the President" was coined by Gene Lyons to describe the right's campaign against Clinton, including the attempted impeachment.

Other Dems have been attacked by the right wing machine, and the attack is certainly about more than individual Democrats. But the two Dems who have received the most hostile attacks from the right are Bill Clinton and Al Gore. Nobody, not Max Cleland, not Tom Daschle, certainly not John Kerry got smeared for as long, and so thoroughly, and so devastatingly as Clinton and Gore.

6. I understand all of that....
Which is why Dems and the American people would have been appropos.

An ounce of humility sometimes gets the message across in a more meaningful manner.

8. FrenchieCat, I know of no other individual in American Politics
that has done so much for the nation and the planet, and in turn been so slandered, obfuscated, trashed, demeaned or ignored as Al Gore by our so called fourth estate.

When he spoke about the dangers of global warming in the late 80's early 90's and published his best seller "Earth In The Balance" he was chicken little according to the corpwhorate owned MSM. They thought he was crazy because he suggested that we should evolve past the combustion engine.

When he rightfully answered Wolf Blitzer's question as to what separated him from Bill Bradley,(as any job applicant would)Al spoke of his legislative contributions while he was in congress in helping to bring about the creation of the internet,Wolf Blitzer said nothing at the time because he knew this was true. It was one or two days later when Dick Armey slammed Al for his hubris and the corpwhorate owned MSM then picked up the ball and ran away with the slander that "Al Gore claimed to have invented the internet", this was repeated by "conservative" as well as "liberal" columnists throughout the land. This consistent lie by the corpwhorate owned MSM had a wearing effect on his credibility with a sizable segment of the American People that still believed that they could trust what passes for American Journalism to tell them the truth. I believe the primary reason that the MSM did this to Al, the Democratic Party and by extension the American People was precisely because he championed the internet, thereby democratizing information, taking some of their power and giving it to us.

The corpwhorate owned MSM even went so far as to turn a 180 overnight as to who won the 2000 debates overruling their own focus groups, Jeff Greenfield is just one small example.

If Al was calm, deliberate and professional, he was labeled as stiff and wooden, if he was emotional or passionate, he was labeled as ranting or off his meds.

My own gut feeling is that the real reason for the witch hunt against Clinton was a back door attempt at keeping Al out of power.

For a much more comprehensive refresher on this click on the Daily Howler website link that I have posted below and google "War Against Gore".

7. Kennedy talked about this on his show last week...
His guest was skeptical since it would be on Fox, but I doubt he'd be involved if it was a snow job. I'll make an exception and watch Fox to see it.

The most important aspect of this I think is the fact that Roger Ailes apparently realizes Al Gore was telling the truth about this all along, and his GOP friends were not. What do you suppose happens if he makes the connection and realizes liberals have been telling the truth about more than just global warming...

9. One of Gore's ex-students asked him about a year ago
How on earth it was possible to get Republicans to vote for Democrats, given the current state of the media. Gore's reply was simply "The truth shall set them free."

I wasn't there, but I know the student personally, so I believe the story.

10. Does anyone know of Rupert Murdoch's views on this?
Edited on Sat Sep-24-05 02:22 PM by Uncle Joe
If I remember correctly,he is still the owner of FOX news. Even if Ailes has come around to the truth, how much leeway does he have?
