I never thought I'd see the day |
|
We moved two months ago, and we updated our voter registration yesterday. My husband switched from Republican to Independent!!
On one hand I feel bad that his leaders have disappointed him that much - like a lot of people, he didn't pay a lot of attention to politics until pResident Disaster happened. On the other hand, 2006 is lookin' pretty bright. There must be a lot of people who feel as betrayed as he does and who will be voting in accordance with that.
He has always thought Bush was horrible (he refused to vote last year) but I never thought he would actually leave the Rep. party.
I'm so proud of him for not letting his pride get in the way of his convictions.

2. Tell him welcome to the party. And now please get involved. |
|
Every area needs people to work for the local candidates in 2006.

3. Good for your hubby, but I can understand your feeling that it's a shame |
|
that his party has abandoned him.
As much as I hear disappointment in the Democratic party expressed here, I know many Republicans of the Goldwater variety who absolutely feel blindsided and abandoned.
They believed in small, efficient government. Their pary has clearly abandoned that.
They believe in fiscal efficiency. Their party doesn't give a passing thought to that anymore.
They believe in privacy and have seen the erosion of Roe v. Wade, the institution of the Patriot Act, and numerous other intrusions into private life in the guise of keeping us "safe."
The Republicans have become what they feared a Democratic government gone unchecked would become...

5. My husband is in the same boat...he was so disgusted with Shrub |
|
after 2000...he voted for Kerry in 2004. He's always been a registered Repub. He's been talking about switching over to Independent or Dem for some time now.
Peace.

He's been a lifelong registered Republican but he's totally embarrassed at what they've become. He's keeping his affiliation for now, while voting 100% Democrat. We're in NY where primaries are for registered party members only, so he will use his voice that way. He also loves to laugh at them when they call and ask him for money.

8. Yep, even my older brother, a staunch repub said he would never |
|
vote for Bush again. It's weird, cause the flood/hurricane aftermath did it for him too. He actually even agreed to read the info I sent him on the 9/11 coverup, which before he told me not to waste my time sending to him cause he'd just delete it. This was really something coming from him. We always have great discussions to put it mildly when we all get together. The rest of us are staunch Dems. I know it really doesn't matter since Bush can't run again (or will he find a way), but it still meant alot to us to hear him say it. Since we're a really close family, we make allowances for him!
