What is a legitimate objection to a nominee?
Can a Senator just object cause they feel like it? Do they have to have a 'real' reason? We all object because we feel pretty sure that if this woman was as close to Bush as it appears for as long as he says, something icky must have rubbed off on her. But is that enough to vote against her in the Senate?

a judge or tried a case before the SCOTUS in fact her only claim to "fame" is that she was * personal lawyer during his reign as gov of TX. If there is a legitimate reason to reject a nominee I would think this is it.

edited for spelling

3. Seconded - she's NEVER been a judge before.
...and besides - she's been hanging out with Satan.

2. this persons professional past has been all about riding the coattails
of W and being rewarded for her personal relationship with him. That says nothing about her qualifications to sit on the SCOTUS. She is not qualified. period. end of story.

She WAS elected to an "at-large" seat on the Dallas City Council....and served a WHOLE YEAR.

Now if that ain't 'qualified' I don't know what it. :eyes:

11. She is as qualified as Brownie was for FEMA
and Lieberman was among those that thought Brownie was well qualified.

5. So the main objection will be that she is inexperienced
What about other SC judges who were not judges first? Will Bush use them to make this seem 'normal'?? And will that fly?

Sorry for all the questions, I just don't know that much about this. Trying hard to educate myself as quickly as possible. I watched as much of the Robert's stuff as possible, but I thought he would have had a lot more objections because he did not seem very suitable to me. I was a little shocked to see how easily he was approved. It gave me the impression that a Senator had to have some kind of 'serious' objection before they could vote against a nominee.

10. While it should be sarcasm, it's sadly very close to reality.

8. Like when Breyer and Ginsberg got 90+ votes
Unless the circumstance is extreme presidents get their SCOTUS picks...

We've been lucky enough to scuttle 4 GOP nominations in the past 30 years.

I can't think of one SCOTUS nomination the GOP has rejected recently off the top of my head, I think it goes back to LBJ, and opposition was pretty bipartisan..

9. Miers is a Bush CRONY, just as Brown was when Bush put him in FEMA
Cronyism should never be rewarded because it results in incompetent morons as the ones Bush over FEMA (Brown), Homeland Security (Chertoff), and UN Ambassador (Bolton).

If cronynism is not enough reason for the Senate Democrats to vote against Miers, then they should either stop referring to themselves as Democrats or we should stop trying to save this party.

12. I Think You Said It Best
When Bush appoints cronies, we get incompetents. He needs to appoint a stranger to him. That could help.
