Dean Sends Rosh Hashanah Greetings
Washington, DC-- Today Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean issued the following statement commemorating Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year:
"Tonight Jews around the world begin celebrating Rosh Hashanah and welcoming these High Holy Days while reflecting on the past year.
"This year we have seen the spirit of mankind tested in many ways including war, natural disasters, economic hardships, and genocide. Now more than ever it is important to renew our values and commitment to our faith.
"All can join in the spirit of this Holy time to examine where we have come up short in our obligations to others and to recommit ourselves to helping the less fortunate among us.
"Before I left Israel two weeks ago, we joined to recite a classic prayer thanking God for sustaining us and bringing us to this season - the Shechecheyanu.
"This prayer will be offered again during the coming days as Jews throughout the world will use this time to renew their spirits and take stock of the past year. As the sun dips below the horizon this evening, my family joins me in wishing all those celebrating Rosh Hashanah a happy, healthy and peaceful new year. L'shanah Tovah."
