"Branding" the Democrats--Part 2. The Role of Government |
|
I can't let go of this branding thing.
The Democrats need to make to make it clear to people what they stand for. Here's an idea for a commercial explaining the Democrats ideas on the role of govenment. The idea is to keep it upbeat, general and emotional.
Voiceover: "Some say government is the problem, not the solution" Images: Noted Republicans. Norquists drown it in the bathtub quote or similar. Music: Ominous.
Voiceover: "We're the Democratic Party and we believe that efficient, effective and honest government improves peoples lives:..."
Voiceover: "By Protecting us from foreign enemies and from criminals and disasters at home." Images: World War II soldiers at D Day morph into modern fighter jets which morph into National Guard troops helping old people in New Orleans which morph into a traffic cop surrounded by kids which morph into a street criminal being arrested which morph into Ken Lay in handcuffs.
Voiceover: "By encouraging innovation and research which lead to better jobs." Images: Scientists, computer technicions, farmers.
Voicover: "By insuring that all Americans have access to health care." Images: Doctors and patients, old people getting vaccines, kids you get the picture.
Voicover: "By protecting our environment." Images: People fishing, hiking, amber waves of grain.
Voiceover: "By making sure American workers are ready to compete with the rest of the world" Images: Kids in school, high tech factories, college students.
Voiceover: "By protecting our rights including our right to privacy." Images: Civil rights movement, a courtroom, a worried family at a hospital bedside.
Voiceover: "Democrats believe that it is a moral imperative to make the responsible decisions now in order to leave our children a better world. To learn more visit our website at www.democrats.org."
This last could be done on camera by a noted Democratic spokesman, perhaps Howard Dean--or perhaps someone like Jimmy Carter or some well admired nonpolitical public figure.
What do you think?

1. Sounds great...it will be nice for Dems to brand themselves for a change |
|
Instead of letting the Pukes do it.

4. Beats me, I was just tossing out some ideas. |
|
I really do think that The Democrats have a great opportunity and if they can remind people of the great achievements of the past, and define who they are and what they stand for today, they have a chance of coming back into power.
If it's just the current "non-message" and a laundry list of programs and muddled positions, it's not going to fly.
