Orlando police said Tuesday that Noelle Bush, the daughter of Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, is under investigation after staff at a drug treatment facility said she was found with a "white rock substance" that tested positive for cocaine.

The Homeland Security Office on Tuesday is raising its nationwide terror state of alert for the first time since March, putting it at the orange level, signifying a high risk of terror attacks, sources told CNN.

Remember that at this time Jeb was running for re-election.

WHEN ARE PEOPLE FINALLY GOING TO GET IT?

1. Good one. MSNBC was probably only looking at WH, not Bush family.

2. Bush could never have stolen Florida in 2004 with a Democrat
in the Governor's mansion. Plus, * and his niece share the same "youthful indescretions."

3. Well, the next day was the first anniversary of Sept 11
I think the terror alert was raised in case something was planned for the anniversary, not because some Bush niece got caught with drugs.

4. I thought about that, but why raise it so suddenly the day before
rather than announcing well in advance that the terror alert level was going to be raised for the anniversary of 9/11? Wouldn't that have made more sense and been somewhat reassuring rather that fear provoking? Sure, this could be nothing, but remember this was not just "some Bush niece" but the daughter of the Governor of a crucial state who was running for re-election. * needed both control of Florida's election machinery and those "family value voters" in 2004.

5. There was this one too
Not a terror alert, but the similar use of the subject of terror to swing the news focus:

July 29 2004:

Massachusetts Senator John Kerry, accepting his party's nomination as the 2004 candidate for the U.S. presidency, saluted the Democratic National Convention July 29 and said, "I'm John Kerry and I'm reporting for duty."

http://usinfo.state.gov/dhr/Archive/2004/Jul/30-351335.html

July 29, 2004:

Pakistan has arrested a senior al-Qaeda figure with a bounty of up to $25m on his head, Interior Minister Makhdoom Faisal Saleh Hayat told CNN television on Thursday.

http://www.news24.com/News24/World/News/0,,2-10-1462_1565446,00.html

A curiously timed announcement considering that:

The Pakistani security sources said the arrests took place Sunday (July 25) morning after a standoff that began Saturday night in Gujrat, just southeast of Islamabad.

http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/05/26/kerry.nomination/

Not only that, but this was predicted in advance:

July 12, 2004:

...It was revealed last week by The New Republic that the Bush administration has been trying to arrange the capture of a top Al Qaeda chief in Pakistan - specifically timed to have an effect on the upcoming election. Yup, it's long been suspected that the administration will have an "October Surprise" up its filthy sleeve but there was no evidence - until now. TNR reported that the administration "significantly increased its pressure" on Pakistan to capture bin Laden or another "high value target" (HVT). Which is fine - except that the Bushies insisted it should happen before November. For example, a Pakistani security official told TNR that they had "been told at every level that apprehension or killing of HVTs before election is absolute must." Not only that, but a White House official apparently told Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence director that "it would be best if the arrest or killing of HVT were announced on twenty-six, twenty-seven, or twenty-eight July."
