Sherrod Brown Hiding?
Yesterday I posted several questions regarding Sherrod Brown's latest change of mind. Sherrod Brown's supporters did not respond in any meaningful way to those questions.

Link to yesterday's questions: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x2163035

Today we are witnessing yet more purchases of Blog Ads from Sherrod Brown, including on this website. Why is Sherrod hiding behind a wall of money?

As I posted yesterday, Brown can follow Paul Hackett's courageous lead (again) and post a diary. This way Brown can hear directly what we think of his candidacy. Is Sherrod afraid of what he will hear? Is Sherrod Brown hiding?

I suppose Brown's campaign must think that they can buy all of us.

2. what do you mean by "we" ?
there are already many Brown supporters on DU who have no problem with his running and know enough about him to support him. they don't need him to do any diary. they have a record of his throughout the years to judge him on.

8. And many of those Brown supporters are from Ohio, so their votes
actually count for something.

I've lately been enjoying a little game I've devised - click on the profile of the DUer slamming Brown and see if s/he's even an Ohioan. :eyes:

18. I ALWAYS do that in such cases.....
I value everyone's opinion but residents of the state being discussed rate MUCH more highly to me.

9. Hell, I'D like to know why he changed his mind.
Especially when it effects the candidacy of Hackett.

3. ...
Brown following Hackett's lead? That's to LAUGH. Brown has been one of the strongest and bravest progressive voices in Congress for ten fucking years. Now if you look at Hackett's legislative record - oh, wait sorry, he has none, he's run for office once and lost. It was an impressively close race, sure, and I was thrilled about that, but that doesn't mean he belongs in the U.S. Senate. HE HAS NO LEGISLATIVE EXPERIENCE.

As for what you refer to as "hiding behind a wall of money," on planet Earth it's called "campaigning."

And I've got news for you, I doubt Brown is "scared" of Hackett's already-tiresome fan-club of ignorant internet assjacks. He's probably more like pissed - pissed because he has to waste money correcting the misconceptions of his opponent's uninformed blogosphere cheerleaders.

5. People are ticked off at Brown because
Edited on Tue Oct-18-05 01:22 PM by brentspeak
he personally reassured Paul Hackett that he wouldn't run for DeWine's Senate seat. Then Brown changed his mind - but not before Hackett made a splashy announcement to run for the Senate. Lame-brained of Brown, to say the least. Hackett would not have announced a run for the Senate if he knew Brown was running for the seat.

6. i can understand the complaint, but after a while it gets tiring
if that's the biggest problem people have with Brown then he most likely is a pretty good guy. and based on his record he is.

7. But this created a potentially big problem for the Democrats
Hackett wouldn't have bothered to announce a run for the Senate if he knew Brown was also running. Instead, Hackett would have announced a second run for the House. But now that Brown is also running, what does Hackett do? If both Brown and Hackett run for the Senate, that's one less good Democrat candidate to run for Congress. It could have been two.

11. Hackett can still move upstate and run for Brown's old congress seat
Edited on Tue Oct-18-05 01:54 PM by asthmaticeog
...a move I would vigorously applaud. The splash Hackett made is phenomenal. I'd like to see him in Congress, or even the State Senate if US Congress can't happen - progressives like Dan Brady could probably use some extra liberal backup in the Repub-dominated Ohio Statehouse. But the US Senate? Right out of the box? No way he'll get my support over Brown in the primaries.

12. Hackett can still run for the House if he wants
he isn't legally barred from doing that just because Brown announced he would get into the race.

there are some people who demand Brown answer for why he got into the race and i'm sure he will do that. if people don't want to vote for him based on how and when he announced they don't have to.

but there are also people who are willing to overlook that or don't even really care and will vote for Brown based on other things.

17. You presume Hackett would win if he ran for Senate.
The Senate race is going to be difficult and it's going to be close. It's important that the most liberal Democrat with a chance of winning runs for that seat. That very well could be Brown and not Hackett.

16. This criticism makes no sense to me.
Ohioans should be pleased that they have a fine field of candidates from which to choose.

They should also be happy that they get to hear Hackett tell people what he stands for if he does run in the primary.
