If Cheney resigns and Rice is nominated as VP
Edited on Tue Oct-18-05 02:28 PM by cally
what happens to the base? I know DU has discussed a VP Rice appointment many times but I'm taking it more seriously now that US News and World Report is speculating on this. So will AA increase support for Repubs and by how much? Will women move towards support of Repubs? Will some of the racist and sexist base leave the party? Is it likely that she'll sail through the confirmation hearings? Can she avoid the ties to the WHIG group during confirmation? Can she avoid speculation about why she is single?

By the way, I know she said she's not running for President. I just assume that whatever she says is a lie. I'm almost always correct on this.

Here's a link to the LBN thread on the rumors:

edited for grammar.

3. Bush is only interested in having a crony
by his side. He'll need all the help he can get because once Cheney and Rove are gone, he'll fall apart.

4. Cheney will NEVER resign (unless he has a timely "health incident")
and repugs will NEVER condone an Unmarried Black Woman in 2nd line to the throne.

This latest bit of whimsical fantasy is somebody having a good joke on DCers.

Cheney will have himself stuffed and mounted so as not to leave 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

8. Just wondering...do you have any proof that Cheney isn't already
stuffed and mounted in the White House? The few times we have seen him in the last year it is like an episode of Keith Olbermann's puppet theater. The Master of Evil is really stiff.

13. I think you're right about the Unmarried Black Woman as veep
That would be a very bad assault on some of their core voters.

16. That's my take, also
I just don't see how she would get confirmed. I don't see who would support her. The Republican activists is concerned about * cronies and loss of support for the Iraq war. Rice is tied too closely to Cheney and *. I think she would face a very tough nomination process. None of the talking heads would come out and say it but I don't think the Repub activists would support a single, unmarried, black woman.

17. The GOP might not condone it, but this ain't the GOP, is it?
The Bush Administration is a brotherhood bound by the blood of criminal conspiracy. They owe no allegiance to the party they used to catapult themselves to power, and now it's all about CYA. Their empire of money laundering and crony capitalism extends well into the GOP leadership, but it is a mechanism of control, not an expression of loyalty to the Party.

And let's not forget that most if not all of the very stupidest moments of the Bush Administration appear to have come from the very stupidest member of that Administration: the President himself.

If left to decide for himself, we may well discover that poor thinking skills, dishonesty, greed, inability to take responsibility, and blind faith direct the President's moral compass, but not racism or sexism.

5. She'll probably do ok
with VEEP appointment, but it will be a very different story if she runs for President.

She'll have to go through the Republican primary process and all the scumming tactics that that entails. ANd yes, they will be digging into her past and why she is single...

LIKE that - it's the other stuff - pro-choice, single, and Black that will be problematic with the base.

7. How will the GOP base handle it? A black pro-choice woman???
How can a party of white penis-challenged males reconcile having a black woman as their second in commmand? And one who makes her own decisions regarding her body at that!

10. Maybe Bush hopes no one will want him to resign if she's VP
I don't believe she'd be considered for the spot, but just to play along...

It won't affect anything unless she runs for president. It won't draw women or blacks to the party because, contrary to what the media and Repubs believe, people vote for whose issues they agree with, not on how like them a candidate is. Even Repubs would support a black woman if she told them all they wanted to hear.

Having said that, Rice has no speaking ability, no mojo, and she is neither an intellectual like Clinton nor someone you'd like to have a beer with, like Kerry (some say Bush, couldn't bring myself to do it). So she's not running, and if for some wierd reason she did, merry christmas to us in 2008.

Just my analysis. Probably wrong, as always.

19. Don't automatically underestimate her.
She does have her doctorate, and it was EARNED. She wasn't from an important political family when she got it. She was even a Democrat at the time. She is not stupid.

She IS articulate.

Much of W's base loves her.

And some blacks would take a more favorable view of the Repubs. I said SOME, NOT ALL. There is a huge difference between having some blacks on staff, and as VP. If only 5% of black took a more favorable view of the Repubs, that would cut into our base.

She collapses under pressure, she wears every lie on her face, and she gets haughty when disagreed with.

20. We could run Zell Miller against Condi
I think Condi for VP would disintergrate the Repuke party. Maybe the beltway intellectuals would feel comfortable with having an African American female one accident away from the ultimate leadership position for their nation-state, but not your average repuke.

I hear repukes that are offended by a mere fictional portrayal of a woman pres(Geena Davis) so what makes the GOP "masterminds" think they would actually accept a African American, pro-choice, unmarried female as their leader?

The repukes would lose supporters in droves and we could win them back by running Zell Miller as our pres candidate. Absurd, I know, but so is the Condi as VP strategy.
