watching the right eating their own |
|
I was waiting for a meeting to begin at a govt agency here in DC this afternoon and noticed a copy of the Moonie Times on the waiting room table, so I decided to flip through it. In just this one edition, there were at least four separate columns (Tony Blankley, Cal Thomas, Jack Kelly and Robert Goldberg) that savaged the Miers nomination, suggesting that the only way Chimpy can redeem himself with his base is to have the nomination withdrawn. Every once in a while the columnists try to find a way to take a shot at the Democrats, but by and large they simply attack the president and/or other conservatives. Incredibly, even though they are calling for Miers nomination to be withdrawn, several of the columnists ridicule some of their own pundits (although not named, George Will clearly is on their minds) for attacking the nomination. And when it comes to Plamegate, they don't know what to do. Blankley basically argues that the prez should not make any attempt to defend anyone charged with perjury; he should just cut them loose.
If the indictments materialize, this is gonna be fun to watch.

1. There was some RW nut interviewed on cspan WJ this AM. |

He's some fundie leader but not a preacher. The host asked him, other than retracting Mires nomination, what could W do to convince you to change your mind. He said "NOTHING!"
We want one of the proven judges who we KNOW will vote our way, or W will have a very difficult time governing for his last 3 years! We also will NOT support any Pubs in 06!
These folks are really pi**ed off!!!

3. I believe the term is "strawman". |

I believe the real reason behind them attacking him on her selection is that treason and incompetence is too radioactive for them to touch.

5. Indictments aren't a substitute for the hard work of campaigning |
|
You're absolutely right. But they will make it easier to get folks who haven't been willing to "trust" Dems to give us a fair listen. (Of course, the fact that the administration's incompetency has been exposed by their miscalculation on the course of the Iraq war and by their failure to deal with Katrina, and by the rollercoastering oil prices also helps, even in the absence of indictments).
And as to whether repubs can disagree with each other without blowing up their coalition of business and fundies -- that is yet to be seen....
