Karpinski, Abu Graib general, on the Daily Show |
|
Jon Stewart just had brigadier general Karpinski, the person that pentagon let take the fall for the Abu Graib torture incident on for an interview.
That woman has more balls than anyone I have ever seen. She was more straightforward and blunt than anyone I have ever seen in an interview on TV.
Her story: I had command of prisons holding over 8,000 prisoners. I have been in the army 20+ years. I and my people know the Geneva conventions and abided by them. On orders from the pentagon and implemented outside my authority, the pentagon sent in military intelligence people who violated the geneva convention, they were completely lawless and violated everything I have sworn to uphold through my career.
The most credible person I have ever seen on the stand. The topic itself is explosive, she put herself on camera and addressed it straight on. And named names, Rumsfeld and AG Gonzalez.
Here's one Q&A, from memory: Q Has there been a coverup? A Well, in one photo alone of the abuse there are 32 boots visible, but there has only been 7 people prosecuted.
Of course the boots of Rumsfeld and Gonzalez will never be visible.
She will of course be villified.

1. It's too late, she already has been villified |
|
but it's amazing that she goes on TDS and does this, and now lots of people know it from her own mouth, virtually uninterrupted, something that would've never happened with any morning or Sunday talk show.
And what's worse, she actually seems believable. (I would not have said this based on the news reports of the unfolding scandal at the time it was fresh.)

Was she forced into retirement and/or demoted in rank?

7. So she's still active military? |

She's taking a big risk if that is the case.

4. I thought she came off really well, too. |

You know, right wing talk radio mocked Al Gore when he said, "How dare they drag the good name the United States of America through the mud of Saddam Hussein's torture prisons!"
"It's just a few bad apples," they said. "Gore is craaaazy."
Only the deeper we look, the more we see the failures at the highest levels which led inevitably to Abu Ghraib. Gore's statement echoes in my mind every time I see someone like Janet Karpinski or Ian Fishback try to get the media to reveal the truth about the torture that's going on in our name.
Weren't the second batch of Abu Ghraib photos supposed to be released by now? The ones the judge ordered released? What happened to those?

5. A Female Reserve General is demoted and charged with responsibility ? |
|
Yet the female Regular Army Intelligence General, deployed to Iraq to command all interrogation and intelligence gathering, is quickly shipped home to the US Army Intelligence Command at Fort Huachuca, Arizona......the command where all military intelligence planning and training occurs.....and against the objections of Senator John McCain, Barbara Fast is promoted with another General star and given full Command of US Army Intelligence.
Senator McCain requested that General Fast not be promoted nor given Command until she was completely investigated and absolved of any participation/knowledge of the abuses in Iraq/Afghanistan/Gitmo. His requests were ignored.
General Karpinski is one of those Commanding Officers who got the shaft while the villains/ass kissers get the ribbons.
This is one of the reasons why I would talk and do my damnedest to keep my grandson and any young people from enlisting in this BFEE army.
