A call from my mom (re: CIA leak case) |
|
I talked to my mom this morning. Now, I would consider her a "country club" Republican, and she listens to Rush, and LOVES Charles Krauthammer. She drives me nuts, but is evolving, especially as she sees how bad GWB is.
Anyway, we updated each other on personal goings on, but then she asked what I thought about the Libby indictment. She started to frame the question in such a way to indicate she is buying into Rush's rhetoric about the indictment being a minor deal, and not worth the time or money to investigate.
I cut her off, saying "don't believe the Republicans when they try to tell you this is not a big deal," and proceeded to explain why. I then spoke of my desire for an indictment of Cheney, and explained the indictment already acknowledges his involvement.
She ended up agreeing with me, which is a huge win. She is bombarded with Rush et al everyday, I only get her twice a week at most. She normally brushes off my opinion and changes the subject.

3. Your mom is coming around. |
|
Does she have Thom Hartmann or Ed Schultz on her radio where she lives?
It would be good if she got some perspective in the medium she's used to. Randi would be the best source for facts, but she's a bit abrasive for CCRs (Country Club Republicans).:hi:

7. She is in DC, so she has Ed Schultz. |
|
She might like Thom, he is low key compared to some of the others. She probably wouldn't like Ed Schultz, he is probably a little loud and obnoxious for her tastes (I know, she listens to Rush).
She only listens in the car, and is set in her ways as much as her pre-programed stations. Her husband is reasonably liberal and works on her a bit, which is probably the source of her mini-transformation.

You should've played the Fitzgerald press conference. He made sure to point out it was a big deal. Did she see that or just listen to Rush?

When Franken was on commercial, and Oh'Really was harping on about he's still a target for smears.
He was lying through his teeth, then he turned it around on the Clintons and how they supposedly ran a multi-million dollar campaign to smear and discredit Ken Starr, yada, yada, yada. He even brought up that proven in a court of law (by a Republican judge) lying bitch Juanita Broderick.
People thought I was a crazy man, watching me glare at my dashboard, yelling at my radio as I was eating McDonalds in the car.

She may have been one of the big donors to the Baker fiasco or could have followed Jones to S. America. Most of the average citizens who listen to bozo rush, go to church and pray that all democrats will join the army and die!

10. She's not overly partisan |
|
and I doubt she would consider herself an average citizen. She definitely didn't follow Jones to S. America because, well, she's alive and well.
Honestly I don't get the Rush thing, because she regularly watches Newshour, and would probably self identify more with David Brooks than Rush Limbaugh. She likes Tom Oliphant, but not Mark Shields.

11. Very cool. Can't imagine having a Republican mom, must be |
|
painful.
(Mine is gone now, but if she were here, she'd be writing letters and I suspect even joining me at peace rallies.)

12. Not so much painful for me as it is for her |
|
she has three children, and all are Dems, and fairly liberal at that. My older brother is darn close to being a socialist, and my younger brother is center/left. I guess I'm the middle child in more ways than one.
