There has never been anyone like Bush in 200+ years of American government |
|
Edited on Thu Jan-29-04 12:59 AM by WilliamPitt
Cheney is unique. Rove is unique. Rumsfeld is unique. Perle is unique. Wolfowitz is unique. The consolidation of maniacs like this into one administration is unique. The consolidation of power, information and money is unique. If you do not see this and know this, you are a waste of carbon who needs, desperately, to catch up on the last 50-odd years of American history. Start with Paul Nitze and work your way forward.
This has been the Clue Phone. Thanks for taking the call.
P.S. This is not an endorsement of Kucinich, or Kerry, or Dean, or Edwards, or Clark, or Lieberman, or Sharpton, or even Hamm. This is a repudiation of the harebrained idea that voting for a Democrat in 2004 is a bad thing, and a repudiation of the idea that Bush & Co. are somehow not dangerous.
On edit: Save your "Yeah, but..." replies. There is no "Yeah, but..." involved here. Forest, meet trees.

Rove learned from Atwater, but Rove is worse.
By the way, I read that Atwater repented his evil ways when he was dying. I have often wondered if God forgave him. I don't think so because I believe that Atwater only repented because he was dying.

6. God made Atwater His pissboy |
|
Edited on Thu Jan-29-04 01:06 AM by WilliamPitt
Atwater repented, and got to Heaven, and God said, "Verily, thou hath repented thine evil deeds in mine sight, and I have heard thy lamentations, and do accept them. However, thy sins were so long and vast that I would fail to keepeth order around here if I did not punisheth thou. Verily, then, thou shalt carry this golden bucket, and thou shalt follow Me, and whenever I must relieve Mine Holy Bladder, thou shalt stand forth and catch Mine Holy Waste in aforementionedeth bucket."
And so, Atwater will spend all of eternity in Heaven, carrying God's pissbucket everywhere, and all the angels and saints mock him and call him names.

13. That's cute, but it's not what FORGIVENESS is all about. |
|
Those who have truly needed, and received, forgiveness -- we KNOW what it is to be forgiven. Not my place to judge, I'll leave that to the Real Judge, but I'd bet Lee is wailing away on his Strat, taking lessons from Jimi.

19. SRV was putting Texas first |
|
I never saw that as Bush loyalty. Since you live in Texas, I have no need to explain the whole Texas thang. SRV was invited by who was then a legally elected (albeit criminal) president-elect to play at his dance, and he obliged, because it isn't an opportunity that comes along every day. Some people put obligation and country before politics. SRV was accepting a presidential invitation, not a Republican one.
SRV used to speak out against Apartheid at concerts in the 80's. I doubt seriously he was a Republican. If it were the second coming of LBJ, he would have been there.

I've seen him play live--if he's a republican, then black is white, up is down....and on and on. T'ain't no way he was a republican.

Even though Bush (either of 'em) is no Texan, it was probably a big deal for a humble man like SRV to be asked to play an inaugural.
I saw him back in '85. His sermon about racism kicked the audience right in the ass.

SRV probably figured the Pukes' money spent just as well as anyody else's and the Pukes were paying. Now, did he say anything that sounded SUPPORTIVE? (Pleeeeze God, tell me he didn't!).

Don't look a gift gig in the mouth. Plus, that putting Texas first thing. Had he lived through of all of Bush's term, he would have probably regretted his participation.
I felt the need, as a fellow SRV fan, to let Velma know she has nothing to worry about. :-)

I just needed a little reminder about all the good things Stevie Ray did. I suppose one doesn't say no to that kind of opportunity.
I just wish the Bush's didn't take advantage of the "put Texas first" mentality since the aren't really Texans. Drives me nuts that people down here cut them so much slack.

8. I've always thought Atwater actually had a soul |
|
I mean, he actually played a STRAT guitar! Real Pukes cannot play anything but the Bose Wave Radio! Atwater was just a "regular guy" who was led astray.
I say that in jest, of course. But Atwater did repent, and I think he was sincere. Was it just because he was dying? Maybe. At least he repented before he died.
Rove, on the other hand, has never had a soul; never will have a soul; he SOLD it the day he was BORN, or should I say SPAWNED from Satan's seed! And Rove will never die; he'll be sucked back down to Hell from whence he came.
Will, you are dead on right, as usual. Anybody who buys into NBD or NBAnybody needs an infusion of gray cells -- ANYBODY BUT B*SH!!

22. I never had a relationship with Kerry |
|
I did, essentially, two interviews with him, one in a crowded room and another in a van that traveled for 17 minutes. I greatly admire him, and have supported him enthusiastically on DU, but there was no relationship to speak of.
I met Dennis three times over the last year before I took the job. The fourth time, I spent about 100 hours in a van with him in Iowa, and watched him speak in place after place. It was extraordinary.
Hope that helps.

Sure, Will I agree. See also the "Long March" thread.
My wife and I about 2 years ago were trying to think of a worse president and all we could come up with was Harding. But that was then. These guys are the greatest danger to American democracy since Jeff Davis.

The good news is that the progressive train is leaving the station and will be picking up steam over the next 10 months. When the American public finally wakes up to the absolute criminal corruptness of this administration and their RNC enablers, the backlash is going to be breathttaking.
