Jerry Springer Sucks!!! Big Time!!!
He's just awful. He's unprepared. He doesn't know how to advocate the Liberal position forcefully. He lets the right wingers walk all over him with falsehoods. He's just terrible.

2. Is this a premonition, or do you have experience to go by?

Experience
He's talking about abortions, and he fumbling through his answers as he tries to counter the right wing nuts calling his show.

For example, some right wing nut job calls about knowing only one married couple who got an abortion. Right there Jerry should have simply said, "Good for you, but laws cannot be written only on your personal experiences. You and I don't know each and every situation where a woman needs to have an abortion. Just like Terri Schiavo, the government cannot invade personal family decisions." Bam simple.

3. Now I know they say the Unfiltered didn't have the best ratings...
But Springer is God-awful at this. I don't see how dumbing down AAR with Springer just to get a new group of listeners helps.

I miss Unfiltered! :(

4. He's an entertainer
not an advocate, not a pundit, nothing but an entertainer. Get him on the subject of incest and you'll have a discussion.

5. Phil Donahue is the king of TV liberals
Nobody beats Phil, not even Gruppenfuhrer O'Reilly. Bill is too much of a pussy to have Donahue on again, and he can't really get booked anywhere else.

15. Think Donahue would ever consider AAR?
Phil's been a TV guy for decades. Would he translate to radio better than Franken or Springer have?

6. He needs to go back to his TV show.
I've been having to hold poor little Matcom as he cries himself to sleep because his "Jerry" isn't on.

9. I agree- I'm always surprised by how poorly informed he is.
I wish I could remember some specifics, but every time I've listened to his show, I've heard a caller tell him some factoid that's common knowledge, and he responds with a sort of "that's a pretty outrageous claim and I'll have to look into it".

12. If I was gonna host a liberal radio show
The first thing I would do is study conservative talk radio and right wing sites like lucianne and FR. The craziest crap out there, looking for the most extreme things I can find.

That way, I would be less likely to be suprised and completely floored by something a republican caller said.

Because, I think things like what you mention about Springer happen because some of the shit and lies conservatives come up with are so out there, so strange, and so fantasy-based, that a sane person couldn't even concieve such a worldview. So it doesn't even seem like a possibility.

Sorta like:

Well, how dare you attack Bush when you know damn well that all you liberal pussies had no problem supporting Bill and Hitlery when they were having all those US troops secretly murdered so they could blame the Kennedy assasination on Richard Nixon.

13. The hosts of Unfiltered were really well-informed,
especially Rachel Maddow.

They were replaced with the dismal Jerry Springer, with Maddow pushed to an hour-long show at 4 AM central time.

Now AAR is axing Morning Sedition. MS is a fast-paced, funny show, admittedly not to everyone's taste, but still a bright, hip look at important issues.

Mark Riley is rock-solid in his facts; you can tell he really does his homework, and daily gives a cogent primer on whatever subject they are discussing.

So what's left? There are two large blocks of time that are hard for me to listen to, because of the ranting and rudeness to callers.

Al Franken is quite informative, but slower-paced than many like.

Sam Seder is better by himself than when paired with Janeane, even though I agree with her politically. For me, her sweeping psychological portraits of conservatives are off-putting, and if I'm put off I can only imagine the reaction of those who don't agree with her political views.

I guess I'm saying that for the first time I'm worried about Air America. Seems like their changes have been for the worse, not for better, and I find myself pod-casting Stephanie Miller instead of tuning in to AAR on my local station.

I had such high hopes for AAR, and I'm not sure I do any more.

Adds to my sadness about where our country is going.

16. That's what we get for the MODERATES having all the cash
to start up AAR. We need the folks making the program calls to be LIBERAL. The moderates give the right wingers too much slack and they promptly HANG them with it.

It's great for our dear Jesus (no joke) and the truly kind and meek to give the right wing the benefit of the doubt, BUT NOT if you wish to rid this country of their American Taliban Laws.

Well duh. Ole' Mike Malloy is too "out there" for even me, but he's EXACTLY what we need during *prime time.*

His core fans LOVE HIM and are extremely loyal.

In other words, IMO it's time to shake up our base.

Amen and thank you Jesus!

Can I get a witness?

18. Witness here, and a big AMEN!
The Rush Limbaugh's and G. Gordon Liddy's are the ones who fueled the right wing movement. I despise them, but what they did worked. They got people angry at Clinton, for better or for worse (and for the country, it was definitely worse)

Point is though, it worked.

Franken's approach isn't going to do that. And especially not when he volunteers airtime to Limbaugh fans!

Randi, Malloy, Sam Seder.... they know what to do when a neocon calls their show and bleats out the FAUX news talking points. This is what is needed. Reality check for the Busheep who are listening. And they DO listen. Just like those of us with the stronger stomachs will occasionally watch FAUX, or listen to Mush, Hannity or whomever, for the purpose of "opposition research".

Take the fight to these deluded Chimp lovers. Don't put a bunch of wimps on the radio!
