Alito: We Need To Stay Focused
What matters about Alito is his record as a jurist. Period. Its horrible and is reason enough for the Democrats to filibuster his nomination, nuclear option threat be damned. That, and only that, is what we should be hammering away on.

What we shouldn't be wasting our time with is irrelevant arguments and comments about Alito that won't do anything to change anyone's mind about Alito, including arguments and comments (1) about his failure to serve in Vietnam (which isn't surprising since the war was all but over when his deferment ended); (2) about the sophmoric web-posting of his son (who probably was a sophomore when he posted it); (3) about whether his daughter looked "angry" in the photo taken at the White House; (4) about his failure to win a big case against the mob as prosecutor. I have seen several posts about all of these things in the last day and a half. They don't help, and as far as I'm concerned, anything that doesn't help harms the effort.

Focus focus focus. Its the only way we can beat this guy.

1. That's exactly what I've been doing
I wrote both my senators, focusing on Alito's record and how it is anti family and anti worker as well as anti woman and anti minority.

2. Great. Everyone should be doing exactly that.
And if you're senator is a repug, don't just ignore. Write. Make them feel some heat.

3. Write especially if they are a rethug
Why? Because they need to be made uncomfortable. My conman is a repuke, and I know that continued calls, emails, and letters from our local peace group have made him very very uncomfortable (we're working on the culture of corruption right now).

4. I've heard the he was confirmed by a 100% vote twice before,
Do you know if that was for the appeals court, and if so why was he confirmed twice ? I have not had much time to listen to news in the last week or so, I'm behind.

5. Judge Alito's fragrant record
Just look up Doe Vs. Goody 125 S.Ct. 111, 2004. It's one of Judge Alito's dissenting opinions. The cops had a search warrant to search a man, but they also STRIP SEARCHED his wife and 10-YEAR OLD DAUGHTER! Judge Alito said no one's constitutional rights were violated.

So, Judge Alito thinks it's ok to strip search little girls? Uhhh-huh! Right. Try that without a badge and you'll be doing 10-20 in the state prison.

6. I agree, and if the repukes exercise the nuclear option
eventually democrats will win, and they will not forget

8. In addition to his putrid record as a judge, we must also focus on his
recent scholarship, most particularly his work in connection with the law school class on "Terrorism and Civil Liberties" he has recently taught at Seton Hall University School of Law (link <http://law.shu.edu/samuel_alito.htm>).

Does anyone have access to his course materials, former students, lecture notes, etc. from this class?
