O'Reilly to Malkin: I went through the VietNam era.
Damn, Billy, you're a fucking hero! Guess what ass wipe? I and many of my progressive brothers and sisters actually went through Vietnam. The war, not the era. I still set off metal detectors in airports. How was your war, you chickenhawk piece of shit?

3. Geez, O'Loofah I was a preteen and "went through the Vietnam era"
Whodathunk it was that easy to claim you "went to war". That was your implication, right, butthead? For the record, my father went and so did many others. Draft dodgers like you, and that's essentially what you were, make me ill.

explain to him what it means to be a veteran. Tell him like it is--and then tell him what he is. You've earned the right to do that.

6. Doesn't he mean he was a journalist in the war?
The funniest thing is when he says he saw combat. Yeah, baby, you saw it from a freakin' distance. He tries to make it sound like he was right in the middle of a firefight or something.

took place in Central America. My guess would be that someone detonated a firework in his vicinity.

12. "Went through the Vietnam era"?
 Anybody who was born by about 1966 can claim he or she "went through the Vietnam era." So if you're at least 40-ish you qualify. Of course, DildO uses the phrase to suggest that he's a Vietnam war vet, which he definitely is not, though he could have been if he'd wanted to at the time. But he didn't, so he needs to STFU about Vietnam. He wasn't there.

44. Wow, you were in the A Shau?
It musta looked like pure dee shit by the time you got there. Hamburger Hill and all that...

WELCOME HOME, alla you Namvets, I love ya's to the bone. My daughter's daddy was a doorgunner, '68, Cu Chi & Tay Ninh, and before I found DU almost all my friends online were Vietnam vets. I hate how this country treated you guys and have been feeling sick, just sick to death at heart and in my belly, as I've watched Iraq turn into another quagmire.

Hell I saw it on the horizon and was sick with dread even when Bush&Co were just *talking* about sending our troops to oust Saddam and take over that country! I know several soldiers who are in Iraq right now and some who have come back and some yet to go -- and some who fit in two or even all three of the above categories as they are sent back repeatedly with NO CHOICE about it! It's maddening!!!

I've heard O'Reilly do his bullshit schtick about having "seen combat" several times back when I could still bear to watch him, but it was that very thing that made it impossible for me to even hear his voice or see his face any more. I watch Faux News now and then just to check on what they are saying, but NEVER do I tune in O'Reilly. I just pray there is a true and fitting karmic reward waiting for that man some day...

I don't know if his ratings are plummeting, but I hope so. The fewer people listen to his venom and vitriol the better!

I guess I lived it as much as O'Reilly. What a jerkoff. Didn't he recently say he knew what combat was like also.

32. This isn't the first time O'Liely has Walter Mitty'd about war.
O'Liely has big issues about not having been in combat. He was called on this by a resident of Portland. Anyone recall the interview with AAR in Portland with the guy who called into O'Lielys show and made him clarify that he was NOT a soldier but a reporter in S.America?

I was in the Vietnam era also. My brother served and was a war hero. I protested the war and did all that hippy stuff. I am proud of my actions against the war but I would NEVER pretend to be in the same club as those who faced the mortal threat of combat. I think war is crap but I would never demean those who served in by claiming to be in their ranks.

49. When the chickenhawk thinks of wartime, he is thinking of
the battle at home between him and the peaceniks. That's the REAL fight...the fight to shut up political opponents, mau mau them into silence, and ride a flag waving rush of patriotism into office forever.

War, to the chickenhawk, is politics. It's a means in the battle between the war party and the rest of us.

War, to them, isn't something that happens overseas, with death and dying. At least not something that they care about, or experience. It was pretty clear Oliely thought the Vietnam era was protests. Because that's what he wants to stop.
