Subject: Candidate for US Senate asks McCain to leave Republican Party

An open letter to Sen. John McCain:

I want to express my sincere admiration for the courage and honor you demonstrated by introducing the "anti-torture provision" into the recent Defense bill. It was the right thing to do and I commend you for doing it.

I am a candidate for the U.S. Senate from Vermont. My campaign is based on support for virtue in government and against the Republican Party because Republicans have lost their virtue.

The fact that nine of your fellow Republican senators voted against this most modest condemnation of torture is evidence that I am correct. Many Republicans in positions of power and responsibility have forgotten what is right and what is wrong. This includes our president and Sen. Pat Roberts, the chairman of the intelligence committee. These men should be condemned for their gross ignorance.

A friend of mine from South Africa told me earlier this year that "Evil is gross ignorance." I've thought a great deal about that statement and I think he may be correct. This sad episode in our history has demonstrated that Republicans are untrustworthy with the power they have achieved. They must be removed from office at all levels.

As a man of honor I encourage you to give consideration to leaving your party and becoming an independent like Sen. Jim Jeffords. The majority of Americans currently consider themselves "independent." You can do better than the Republicans.

Thank you for your service to America, then and now.

STEVEN K. MOYER
Warren, Vermont

Bottom line is on most issues McCain is a very conservative republican and will never leave the party.

4. Evil is gross negligence
Ignorance is not necessarily enough to constitute evil in my opinion.

6. McCain is just waiting for the end of the Bush era
to either run of president or to have more influence in the Senate. I think better bets for leaving the party are Chaffee, Snowe and Collins.

7. never heard of him
and I live right up the road from Warren (in Waterbury)
The senate race is clearly between Sanders and Rich Tarrant (founder of IDX)
Never heard of this guy - at this point Sanders has a lock on the senate seat

12. I cannot even find this guy in a Google search
Sanders is the only progresssive capable of winning in Vermont. The GOP is going to do all it can to try and stop him.

16. Ha!
Did you see McCain standing by Schwarzenegger in Calif. supporting his evil ballot initiatives? Cut from the same cloth, that's what I say.

15. McCain is right where he belongs and
I hope he stays there. Kinda nice to have all the evil ones in one bunch. Makes life allot easier when voting. How he could hug Bush after what was done to his wife is beyond comprehension. He is a real puke.
