The Democratic establishment is afraid of us, folks. That?s why they?ve pulled out all the stops for Kerry. He is part and parcel of the establishment that owes its soul to the company store.
The DLC does NOT want to see a MOVEMENT. Carville, Begala and Tucker Carlson have ALL expressed concern about what's going to happen to this "movement" if Dean doesn't win or has to drop out. It's as if we're "out of the box" now and they're afraid they can't put us back in.
David S. Broder in an early draft of his article, "
History Favors Kerry, But Geography May Not" in the Washington Post for Jan. 27 gave this as one pleasant possibility:
-------------------------------
"The danger for Kerry," (Bill) Carrick (a top strategist for Rep. Richard Gephardt) said, "is that Dean could wage a war of attrition and get to Wisconsin," which occupies the spotlight alone on Feb. 17. If successful in that liberal-leaning state, Carrick said, Dean might pivot into the delegate-rich contests still to come in New York and California.
-------------------------------
The above paragraph has disappeared from the later print version, replaced by two paragraphs full of reasons why Kerry is, well, the big kahuna. But, uh oh, too late the delete key. The attrition meme has escaped from the web site of the Washington Post, and it is running amok.
Look at how the right-wing crazies at NewsMax treat Kerry. I tell you, friends, whoever NewsMax wants, WE DO NOT WANT as our Democratic contender.

What Kerry's Victory Means
Special Insider Report From NewsMax.com
With John Kerry's victory in New Hampshire, Kerry is the clear frontrunner for the nomination.
With Super Tuesday just days away, John Kerry may establish himself as the presumptive nominee if he wins South Carolina and several of the seven remaining contests scheduled for that day.
If Kerry comes in second place in South Carolina and wins just a handful of the Super Tuesday contests, he remains the frontrunner.
Kerry has already established himself as the Democrat who represents the mainstream interests of the Democratic party: unions, special interests, and its ideological wing.
Kerry will clearly win primaries in the big Democratic states, like those in Michigan, New York, California. Ohio, Pennsylvania, etc.
These key states will give him the delegate numbers to win the Democratic nomination.
(I can?t link you to this particular wording on their website, because it doesn?t seem to be there. It came in an email newsletter that some wingnut subscribed me to. I must be on some kind of special list for commie pinko freaks, because I?m not able to unsubscribe. I get it whether I want it or not. So I use it to find out what the Karl Rove lies of the day are. - Caro)

Dean Attacks Kerry, Charges Dirty Tricks (
Notice the spin here. Not that a Kerry volunteer was playing dirty tricks, which was definitely happening, but that Dean attacks Kerry, charging dirty tricks. The volunteer doing it was let go from the Kerry campaign, but Dean is the bad guy.)

NewsMax Editorial
(I just had to throw in the one about Lieberman. He?s the one they?d REALLY like to see us nominate. Bush would win every single state. Then the Republicans could crow. They?d have a free hand to entirely dismantle the U.S. Everything of value in the whole country would disappear into the pockets of the wealthy. - Caro)
Pass it on.
