It's Official!!............Ohio is the most screwed up state in the union. |

Edited on Tue Nov-08-05 09:52 PM by yourout
With all the bad PR to do with Ohio elections and the early returns on this election .....either 75% of the people in Ohio are dumb as rocks or this thing is rigged. < http://www.sos.state.oh.us/Results/RaceSummary.aspx> Edit....added link.

So much to follow. What was on the plate in Ohio? How bad did it go down? How did Blackwell slime his way through this one?

7. Diebold is not the problem in this election. |
|
Many voters had NO CLUE what issues 2-5 were. Even if they heard about it, they were confused by some of the language on the ballot. It took almost 2 pages to read issue 3.
I wouldn't call them dumb, just ignorant of the issues.
And not all counties in Ohio are on Diebold machines. My county still uses paper ballots and issues 2-5 went down in flames.

10. So, this needs to be done again, but in a better way |
|
It often takes 2 or 3 times to pass ballot initiatives, especially ones that propose big changes. Is this the case here? Is there anything besides ballot confusion and low-turnout to see here? (Was RON supported enough in and out of state with money? etc.)

12. There were quite a few Democrats who were against |
|
some of the issues. In Hamilton county, there were some black groups against issue 4 because they said that black neighborhoods would lose representation if the districts were changed.
Then there were other black politicians saying that issue 4 was a good thing. Confusing. Also, the very low turnout didn't help on the issues.
Then there is the issue of too much change all at once. Maybe if they introduce one issue per election instead of all of them at the same time.

17. Redistricting, for one |
|
In California, the Arnold redistricting initiative was a 3 retired judge panel. In Ohio, the Democratic redistricting initiative was a 5 person panel with 2 judges.
Redistricting is definitely a problem. But it makes no sense that Democrats are against it in one state and for it in another, or vice versa with Republicans.
I don't know what the solution is, but the politics of this is loopy.

Both.
Please note that I am in Ohio, but not from Ohio. Important distinction.

16. People were turned off by the complexity of the issues |
|
Faced with reading pages of small print, the voters reacted by saying no. There were too many issues and they were too long.

18. I beg to differ-we were blackwelled. If the 4 election reform |
|
initiatives had passed, he would have been not only at the end of his political career, but the party control would have drastically changed, and he would be finding his sorry ass under subpoena. It's like the GAO report says: the voting machines are not secure, not reliable, and not verifiable.

21. I voted yes, but I knew those issues would fail... |
|
the voters were stampeded by an odious ad where the narrator shouted, "The DEVIL is in the details." (Repeated twice) and used the word "HORRIBLE". Yeah, those words really motivate the fundies.
Most Ohioans wouldn't recognize propaganda if it walked up and slapped them in the face.
Also, when I went to vote there was a flyer in my booth AND in the one next to it saying to vote No on the issues. I took both flyers to the table and said "they're not allowed to do this." the woman at the table quickly took them, crumpled them up and threw them in the trash. she said someone probably forgot to take them when they left.
Riiight....two different people forgot to take their flyers. How stupid did she think I was? They don't even try to cover their tracks anymore.

23. I just reporting first hand complaints |
|
The voters in my county did not come to the polls to vote on these issues. They came to vote on local ones. The complexity and length of the issues made them angry. I spent the entire day yesterday watching it unfold before my eyes.

I can't take it. Yeah, fuck it, let's vote for corruption as usual. Guess you assholes LIKE your government dumber than worms in a bag of shit. Guess you assholes LIKE Ken Harris Blackwell taking a shit on what WAS your democracy and bragging about it afterwards. Guess you assholes LIKE gerrymandering.
This, BTW, is a big "FUCK YOU" to the lurkers, as the smart people who can see through the Taftshit know that this doesn't apply to them.

Ohio is a challenge. But there are similar challenges around the country. You can't defeat entrenched corruption overnight. Never give up.

Last night the State Electons website had a 60-70% majority IN FAVOR of issues 2-5 with issue 1 passing 53-47. I saw it with my own eyes only to wake up this morning to bizarro world. I should have taken a screen shot. Funny how the Issue 1 numbers didn't change at all.
