Why did Corzine Run For Governor Anyway? |
|
It's not typical for a senator to go around and run for Governor. It does happen, but it usually seems to happen in a big state (like California). Or else it happens after a Senator has been in the Senate for awhile and wants a change of pace.
But Corzine hasn't even served out a full term. Anybody know?

by the McGreevey dustup.
And Senators aren't elected President (Governors are).

Didn't like being a senator, and being a governor sets up a Corzine for President run much better.
Oh, trust me, he wants it. The biiiiiiiiiig chair.

he's positioning himself to run for president someday... Governors seem to stand a better chance than senators.

8. He decided after 2002 when the |

democrats in the Senate became totally powerless. The Gov. is a chief executive rather than a lonely voice in the wilderness. If you look at it that way, it makes sense.

9. He's a freshman senator in the minority party ... |
|
which means he couldn't get anything done. He'll be able to make a difference as Governor. :-)

11. Honestly, because after McGreevey we were at risk losing that statehouse |
|
This is a win-win situation because Corzine was big name enough to win the seat and now he can appoint his replacement which will help keep that senate seat in the blue.
After isues with both McGreevey and Torricelli, New Jersey was hurting with democratic candidates with statewide recognition. Corzine will pull someone from the house to replace him in the senate thus giving that person a jump start for the 2006 campaign

12. Codey was an unknown back when the decisions were made. |
|
Right now everybody loves Codey (including me, by the way) but at the time Codey was an unknown acting Governor with no record. The Dems wanted a big name. In hindsight they should have let Codey run--but hey--who was to know he'd turn out so good.

16. That ass Vitter (Louisiana) in going to quit the senate and run for Gov |
|
at least that's the rumor down here...Reason: to set up a run for Prez.
The egotistical creep has been doing nothing but bad-mouthing our state...which has really put the damper on Federal Katrina relief. He wants Blanco to fail miserably.
