I teach science, so they won't want me in KS, and TX is voting for Klan-backed legislation. What other states are living in the 18th century?

1. Come on, we need you
and most, if not almost all, science teachers here will ignore this. New elections next year.

3. Check out Deep13's post just below yours. Humor @ oneself is a
great way of getting over hurt and dissapointment.

7. Look,
I have humor and I don't need to be told how to get over hurt and disappointment, I am working my ass off here in my state to try to turn things around and all of this "teasing" is simply not helpful. If you read my response to you in the other thread I tried to explain it to you. I am not humorless but having spent about 20 hours a week working on things in my state for the last 11 months that are likely not going to be successful but working at it anyway it is just not funny anymore. I am sorry if I seem humorless but I remain steadfast about trying to be productive and progressive in this regressive state. How about being supportive? The "teasing" just is not really very funny right now.

11. Ok wait
I am not looking for a fight but in the last thread out of the many DU threads about stupid backwards Kansas (I am not denying this) you told me to have a sense of humor. Now you tell me to chill because I find no humor but that you are not teasing us. Somehow this is not computing.

I do not want to fight with you, I like you, we are on the same team. However threads that sound mean but are not supposedly meant as mean turn into chill, I am making a joke but I am not teasing, just seem to make no sense, especially when they are directed to those of us who just lost AGAIN!

I spent last night in other threads congratulating people who won to stave off the depression that we lost. OK? It is hard to chill after you not only lose but are made the butt of the worlds jokes along the way. We lost BIG. Lots and lots of work, hours and hours of calls, letters, meetings and miles of foot work and we lost and I am supposed to chill? Why? I am pissed off. Should I feel good about this?

So, I am not angry with you. Like I said, I like you but I do not like to be told to find my situation funny, to move away or else I am stupid or to chill when I see that hours and hours of work continues to be flushed down the toilet by the fundies. I can't chill I am pissed off, OK? I did not expect, although that was probably naive, to find myself driven almost to tears on this site.

13. Muse, hang in there. I know how you feel just being across the state line

and work in OP. You just have to let it ride and keep right on working for better days. We can do it. I know you are passionate in your beliefs and try to make things better from your postings. Believe me it will pay off.

If you are not from here, you can't understand how KS works. The school board will have their asses thrown out next time.

Things will turn around. I think this is what Morrison is trying to help do and I think he will succeed in his race. He sees the dangers and the backward ways of the RW Nuts.

As long as we keep our faith, what we are doing to maybe get things turned around and keep a little humor about will work. You are going to keep hearing "Whats the matter with Kansas" for sometime probably.

Hell, its not even going to be a very good year for KU basketball.

Hope you don't mind my just trying to help you keep the faith and the good work & want you to know we do appreciate it. We need all of us we can get involved. Don't mean to lecture. Take Care.

14. Hi Jon!
I was born and grew up here so I do know how things have worked in the past and how they have changed.

I hope things will turn around but right now every tiny little step is so long and tedious and you just end up banging your head repeatedly against the wall. You can not reason with these people, it is simply not possible even if they would listen. So my frustration comes from being stubborn as hell myself, semi retired and working my ass off with that extra time to continually end up against that damned wall again. I wanted to relax, not fight all the time against the odds.

I do have humor about it to a point but after a bit it feels like some are just picking the scab open over and over again. I can't chill because I am the type of person who will never, ever, ever give up but am easily discouraged by the "better" people here who never offer anything but derision. Today I am feeling sorry for myself and have let myself get over emotional about it even though it was not a surprise, not exactly a vote from yesterday.

Hey, I don't mind your post. It is very nice. Goodness knows you in the neighboring state have much to work against as well. It is tough but we will eventually get through as long as we are aware and stick together on all of this. It would be easier if there were more of us wouldn't it? It seems like everything I do it is with the same people and we are quite frankly wearing out.

Keeping the faith, getting through this one day at a time and hitting the streets again as soon as we get it back together.

19. Muse, I know how you feel.

I'm from SC.

And I know about the "move away" or "Just move" business--yeah, right. I think nowadays, with the economy and the job market as sucky as they are, to move over a long distance is a big risk (Unless you're retired or independently wealthy.)

Kudos for your efforts.

I've never been to Kansas but I think it would be a neat place to ride bikes.

21. It is a lovely place
for many things. Thank you. I have been to your state and find it also lovely.

I refuse to move. I have my farm and my family in the dirt. It is my family and my life and nobody is going to move me.

Anytime you want come and ride. Hilly in this part then flat but the flat part slowly creeps up as it passes into Colorado and I have heard from more than one cyclist that it can be quite a challenge.

17. We aren't responsible for this crap
We just get to live wih it.

So telling us to laugh at ourselves is really not very helpful.

I guess you have no idea how hard MuseRider has worked in her hometown (that she shares with Fred Phelps) to rid Kansas of ignorance and stupidity. She actually does more than type messages on this discussion board. She has posted a link to an organization that she helped found. But that thread has virtually no hits. But you all start making fun of the state we love and those threads get nominations.

Look, I have a warped sense of humor. I come here for entertainment. But it just isn't fun to belittle people for things that are out of their control.

MuseRider and other DUers actually went to the state hearings on the science standards and let their voices be heard. We Kansans have a very active state board here on DU. We have politicians and party delegates in our group who come here to connect and network to help improve Kansas. We have a growing meetup group and DUers come from across the state to join us. Many of us have attempted to help DU understand how serious this issue is and how it affects our kids and our state's reputation.

If you want to make fun of the creationists in our state, you are in the wrong place. I doubt they read DU.

We will gladly laugh at their stupidity but please don't expect us to laugh when you include us in your belittling.

23. Once again
:yourock:!!!!!

Also  and thanks.

You are right, we are getting things done here but it is very slow and very painful. I have discovered that it is not always a good idea to have your name, email and phone number posted on the net when you are working for certain issues. My phone should probably have melted by now.

You work on your stuff and I work on mine and it seems that everyone on the Kansas forum is working on something. I am actually quite proud to be a Kansan. As stupid as it can get there are some amazing, wonderful people here and you know what? Not all of them are even Democrats. We are making the connections slowly but surely.

Wait till the next election,we've been through this before. On another note most Kansas teachers have basically told them to buzz off with their ID bullshit.

If people want to hear and read about it then attend church and Sunday school.
